Telkom’s new ShowMax zero-rated data package

Telkom said the bolt-on service is available on selected Telkom packages, and will give fibre and DSL users up to 100GB of data to stream ShowMax.

LTE customers will receive 10GB of ShowMax data.
R99/mth - LTE clients are not going to be happy ...

But this already exists, and it's for all streaming video services?

I think this includes Showmax subscription. But I could be wrong.

They list this and Showmax as separate items:

How much will it cost?

+If you are a new or an existing DSL, FTTH or LTE customer who subscribes to TelkomInternet you can get the TelkomInternet Entertainment VAS bolt-on for only R99 per month.

+ShowMax monthly subscription fee is R99 per month, and gives a subscriber unlimited access to the ShowMax library. To subscribe please visit: www.showmax.co.za

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the old entertainment bolt on include other services?

Did they just replace that with this that is worse and limited to 100GB?

Uhm. So its 100GB Showmax data for R99. Geez. Not much of a deal.

Why not do a deal with Showmax and offer zero rated data for Showmax streaming...instead of seeing as another opportunity to make some money.

That's no good then. You can buy 100gig from Afrihost for R99 and get lots of free hours (especially over weekends).

Looks like 50GB for R100 on their website. With additional 50GB after hours.

Its R99 for 50+50 which is anytime data until 31 December where it will revised and they are currently uncapped from 00:00 - 18:00 until 30 November.

Okay, so the scamming continues....

You DO NOT get 'zero-rated' data, as we all know that there does not exist a thing such as 'zero-rated data' - it is just a term making scamming legal.

If I am not mistaken you only get 10GB of Shomax data (LTE Users) - which is probably less than a 12-episode mini series, or 4 movies. But, until November 30, you get the so-called 'zero-rated data' between midnight and 18:00? Right? (If so, they just want to make sure you do not use the data while you sleep and go to work. When you get home at 18:00, you pose a data-usage risk, so you cannot get free data)

If I am correct, then this deal stinks.

I was referring to Afrihost not this or Showmax.

That's why I was hinting at that it would be better to just buy a 100GB for the same amount of money.

Agreed.

I just read through their FAQ for this scam.

You do not get Zero-Rated data, you only get 10GB (LTE users) of additional bandwidth per month for Shomax.

Wonder when this scamming will end!?
