Telkom’s plan to improve LTE performance

Good news! Let's hope they follow through. Personally VERY happy with my 2 uncapped LTE packages at 2 different sites.

Better hurry up...I haven't had decent speeds at night since I signed up.

They must hurry, and also stop selling LTE broadband service until congestion issue has been resolved.

indeed, stall sales in congested areas until upgraded. make upgrading a PRIORITY

lets hope they learn from their ADSL fuqup.

we apologise for any speed reductions as a result of the huge growth in demand.”

We hear you,just as...

President Jacob Zuma and other ANC leaders have blamed “government success” for the increase in service delivery protests – as they get more they want more.

MOBILE internet means mobile. Where you buy your sim card does not equate to where your phone or dongle will permanently reside.

Considered going LTE, but so glad I stayed on ADSL.
Rather have a slow stable ADSL than this.
Want fibre, but nobody wants to give it to me :o

"Telkom has seen a dramatic increase in the number of customers making use of its mobile data services, specifically its Smart Broadband LTE offerings."

"Can the service be used at any location?

The SmartBroadband Uncapped Wireless plan is a fixed wireless broadband service; subscribers will be required to consume the service within the fixed location of the physical address that was supplied during the application process."

yes you can take the sim and put in a mobile device, it is part of this problem too.

100% this.

With the ADSL situation they had what sounded like no effective policy in place to deal with congestion as it came up. It was at least a year after congestion was acknowledged at an exchange before they could fix it, since with ADSL they would have to put in an upgrade request that could only be processed in whatever the next financial year was. Hopefully they've changed the way that works and they have funds reserved to fix sites/exchanges as and when congestion occurs.

Telkom capped LTE also affected wherever the uncapped LTE is affected... so your point is?

sorry I'll rephrase that for you,

this is exactly why I opted to NOT go with a telkom LTE solution instead of my fixed line. They are as bad, if not worse, than Cell C

The main base station in my area has been hopelessly bogged down for well over a year. Yesterday an upgrade clearly happened. I went from an average 2-10Mbps over the past year to 70Mbps last night. Solid 18ms pings. Uploads as high as 12Mbps.

Three years ago, during the 8ta LTE trial, I clocked 73Mbps. That was to be my highest ever speed test. Last night I surpassed that with 84Mbps. This morning at 2am I logged 113Mbps. This is on an "old" B593 with internal antennas.

Edit: the 113Mbps result seems aggregated due to the B593 only having Fast Ethernet (100Mbps).
