Telkom 150Mbps LTE Advanced pricing

interesting......

so what are the average speeds one are supposed to expected on LTE advanced? atleast 30mbps, ATLEAST!

Correct me if I a wrong - I can stream then to my Samsung S4 - data costs?

My folks have just acquired an LTE router and data package from Telkom... all I can say is WOW! Latency and data throughput are trully impressive!

Hehehehehe, these products... Connectivity is rolling out and getting faster and faster, yay and all that, but now you have a double edged sword:

- Because of the speeds, you are not looking at a connection near like 2 or 4 meg ADSL, so you are going to be paying a minimum of just over a grand for these latest faster connections.

- But, it's useless because connections like these are highly used for streaming (you know, like the rest of the world does) and your R1300 odd per month, will get you pretty frustrated as you eat through 100 gigs in less than a week.

So, once again, we have an all round fail for the majority of internet users in SA. These select communities pay monthly full DSTV, Cell phone data, 20meg and up ADSL/VDSL... They have all these connections. They are paying the collective service providers 3 to 5 grand per month for something you should similarly achieve with a 10 meg line, decent cap and Netflix etc -excluding local sport.

You can give us bajillion meg line speeds, but if they are hamstrung with low caps and no bundled services such as free voice calls etc, these offerings only pander to the wealthy and the ignorant.

So when are we getting cheaper products for "normal" LTE. Why must we pay R1800 for 60+60 when LTE Advanced is getting 100GB for R1400 ...

I really need to start looking at this for home use. LTE at least. On another note its the same areas getting the win when it comes to connectivity in SA

What's with Parkview and Parkhurst ?

amazing how it seems the same suburbs get trialed .. I mean how many ultra fast options do these neighborhoods need ... Surely you pick a different suburb where you have middle income and no vdsl exchanges .. and get some people signing up due to lack of options .. why roll it out in areas that have all vdsl enabled exchanges and probably 100meg fibre villages ??

Agree with @jetlee

My normal LTE averages 65Mbps. I am on the R1300 for 50Gb so this pricing is at least heading in the right direction. 200Gb for that price is the ultimate sweet spot for me.

To be fair, from a long time suffering Parkhurst resident - yes, we are getting Vumatel (soon), LTE A (soon) and looks like Telkom FTTH judging by the orange coil of fibre hanging from the Telkom pole outside my house but.... As of right now, Parkhurst has NO VDSL, nor do we even have 10mbps ADSL. The fastest Telkom will sell is 4mbps but reality is you get max 1mbps.

For many years we had NO broadband (1Mbps is NOT broadband), it took an active community and residents association to wake up the providers to the "money" a lot of posters alludes is behind the proliferation of options.

Trust me the "Parks" are not revelling in the options, we're just relieved that we also finally emerging from the broadband desert we live in.

The real question is, what will you be going for?

Good on them. People need to realise they need to ask for nice things at the people that provide it, not bitch on a forum.

Apparently Telkom is already in more places than the 2 suburbs mentioned. I was offered a test a Tuesday and I don't live anywhere near the 2 suburbs.

Once again, its only going to be available in the rich areas.

If you were going to offer a premium service who would you target?

You not going to sell many Bentley's to people living in [insert a lower income area here :p ]
