Speedtest.net reports the following to the test server in Newlands Cape Town

ping 233ms
Upload 0.36Mbps
Download 0.24Mbps

This is on a link for which we are paying R1499/month. This matter was reported on the 15/10 and still no change.

Any suggestions, as to what else can be done to escalate this matter.

Telkom 3 G problems (loss of performance) - How do you get Telkom TO FIX IT??!!!

Could someone help?? Give me a way of getting the real issue resolved?

I have been using Telkom 3G from February this year, and the performance was great. I actually posed the results here:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/216559-Telkom-3G-Huawei-E960-Test-Results-1-Feb-2010

From 22 August 2010, I have had degrading network performance.
First the ping degraded from typical values of ~ 110ms up to 197ms and 200ms.
So expecting it to be temporary, I waited until 4 September 2010 and complained:
Ref No: 1CTJ040910. Promises of the problem being addressed.
Result: Nothing.

At start of October I noticed that HLSW could no longer trace route each hop back to the main game servers, it seems all the ICMP packets are now stopped. I can only see my pc, eHome (Hauwei E960 gateway) and then final destination everything else in between is gone (but really slow).

Then from ~ 12 October the network got a lot worse, I could not connect by HSDPA any more, only WCDMA with 384 kbit up down max and suddenly my signal strength has decreased from 95% down to 18% <-> 45% best case (and I am closer than 400meters from the tower!!!)

Thus I complained again on 19 October 2010: Ref No: 10CTJ201010. I inquired about the previous complaint? No sir that problem has been cleared!!! WTF? I still have the problem?!
Telkom (0809 999 991) promised that they will 'come out and look' at it? [whatever that means].

My bandwidth and ping has now been like this for more than a week:

I have tried my laptop in case it was the desktop and no, the results are the same.

How do I get Telkom to FIX this?
It is costing R 489.00 per month for this level of service?!!

I presume that, like me, you have a Telkom Do3G account. I'm fortunate that I still have 95-98% signal strength and cannot complain about the service.

What I would like to know is if we will benefit from the 8.ta roaming agreement with MTN or are we stuck with Telkom's W-CDMA (only) service?

Take into consideration that the Do3G service is more expensive than 8.ta's product!!!!!

Yeah, I'm on the same Do3G plan (R489 for 3Gb) but I'm waiting for the postpaid plans to be made available next month before changing anything.

Something that could have caused your signal degradation is that they have re-panned the transmitter antennae on the "old" W-CDMA towers while they were installing the 8.ta equipment in the same area. Where you were previously receiving the strongest signal from a specific tower, you might now be connecting to a different tower.

Escalate your fault and tell them you want it forwarded to your region's Microwave/Radio maintenance section, as they are the only one's who can help you.
