I recently moved and needed internet at the new house, I decided on the telkom LTE deal as I need something that is month to month and have a TP-Link router from takealot that I could use.
When the telkom sim is in the router I get disconnections every few minutes with no internet access on my pc during this time, i am able to download at full speed when i dont get the connection problem. When i test it with my MTN sim it is smooth sailing with no disconnections and only related to the telkom sim.

When I put the sim in my phone I have 4 out of 5 bars but the disconnections also happen here. Again the speed seems fine but the disconnection every few minutes are the problem.

Is there perhaps something i should enter on the router when the telkom sim is in the device or something else i need to keep in mind? I have been using fibre in my old place for more than 5 years and new to the LTE data field.

U need to switch data roaming off.

The telkom data is telkom only data and not all networks data.

Data Roaming is off, some screen shots below of the router's settings (not sure what else to post that might be of help):

Thanks will also do it on the sim card itself.

Not sure if it's related at all. But been having issues with Telkom LTE in Cape Town today.

Got an SMS saying I have depleted all my data, yet I've got plenty left

Disabled roaming on sim and it seems a bit better but does still disconnect, especially when there is nothing connected, then it takes a while to get back on the internet.

If this is on the router check if you have a power management setting or something similar. Huawei MiFi devices do the same where they disable data when there are no devices connected when some power saving setting is enabled. Not sure if the same for tp-link.

Also in cape town, been getting internet paused smses on both roaming enabled and disabled sims while still having data. Not too sure if it disrupted the connection just annoying to receive.

So from what I can gather. There's a mobile SSID TelkomSA and Telkom-Monate

The Monate one seems to somehow roam on Vodacom without the -R

I've for now disabled the roaming on TelkomSA-R to see what difference it makea

Okay, Nah there is something up with Telkom for sure. Seems like they are wanting to force All Network bundles. Any Telkom Technical guys here on the forum? Call Centre was pretty useless yesterday when I called in.

Funny part as well, is the WhatsApp bundles are All Network, but still that doesn't work when internet access is paused.

Thanks, hopefully the problem is solved quickly.

No power settings on my TP-link router, noticed this isn't a problem when I put my MTN sim in the router so it's only a telkom sim issue.

I have the same problem with a TP-Link Archer MR600 4G+ Cat6 AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router with RSAWeb who rides on MTN in Pretoria.
It disconnects from RSAWEb(default1) as profile name and changes to Afrihost(default1) mostly overnight.
Each morning I have to change it back to RSAWeb.

The only other thing I can think of is setting the APN name and APN to unrestricted. The normal telkom or internet APN rarely causes issues where it does disconnect so I just leave everything on unrestricted.

Just out of interest is this a normal telkom sim? I have one from Axxess and it doesnt have these SMSs I've just noticed. However the other two prepaid sims I have have been spamming this even when I dont use the internet. I think it started 1 or 2 weeks ago.

Yup, normal Telkom eSim

Thanks will try this as a last option.
