Telkom ADSL 1 million subscriber mark broken

How many of those ADSL subscribers are from the same building? I know of a lot of people who, wanting more than just 10Mb, but who cannot get VDSL, have multiple ADSL lines.

* Fixed‐line voice usage revenue decreased 13,5% to R6,9 billion
* Fixed‐line data revenue increased 1,5% to R10,4 billion
* ADSL subscribers increased 7,9% to 1 005 286
* Managed data network sites increased 1,0% to 47 599

I hope the above is a wake up call to the strategists and EXCO of Telkom...

The future is DATA !!!

How many more times must this be pointed out??? Surely they have taken note of the trends over the last 10 years?

Get rid of the Telkom tax and work out a decent pricing on Naked DSL and then see how your DSL lines will grow...

How many will the lose to the LTE-Data deal which is now cheaper and 10 times faster. How many will be lost to fiber?

2Mbps ADSL sound so outdated FFS

In a country of 55 million people it's a pretty poor reflection on our telecoms industry, society and economy that Telkom can only manage to have 1 million ADSL subscribers, despite its massive monopoly.

You can blame apartheid for that, that's too blame for everything in SA.

So Telkom should de-list and be nationalised?

In as much Telkom deserve to be blamed for the state of DSL in SA, there is nothing stopping OLO from building their own infrastructure where Telkom is failing to deliver like we are now seeing in the FTTH front, but we know others they like low hanging fruits.

Indeed. As we can see from the FTTH the other operators will move into very very niche areas only.

Definitely not, I don't think more government regulation or interference is the answer. It's more a reflection on the sad state of our economy and socio-economic conditions than anything else. We simply lack the critical mass of middle-class consumers needed to sustain a healthy fixed-line industry.

A coherent and well planned MSAN roll out would have added many more to that number instead of chasing ports , all UMCs should have been changed first , there are still to many exchanges that are congested .
As for the FTTH that is a thumb suck , it is in a few areas and no one wants it because it is to expensive , now what ?

One thing i know YOU SNOOZE YOU LOOSE
Time for Telkom to catch a wake up .

absolutely pathetic, only reaching one million subs now is just a disgrace

Not really... it is part of their strategy. It is pointless trying to roll out fixed lines in deep rural and rural areas. So it makes plenty of sense to go for a wireless solution in those areas. It also reduces the cost to provide fixed line services, which is exactly what we are all wanting (other than full LLU or naked DSL). Hence you will see an increase in mobile (wireless) customers and mobile data...

Soon mine will be off the list, cancelling my ADSL & Analog line... I'm getting Fibre. Susptect those numbers will only decline going forward as Fibre and WISPS take their market share.
