Telkom ADSL 1 million subscriber mark broken

Get rid of the Telkom tax and work out a decent pricing on Naked DSL and then see how your DSL lines will grow...

^That.What more can I say?

Anyway congratulations to myself for finally adding myself to that number(actually 3rd time)...*sigh* however it's been 2 weeks after new installation and still waiting for a PPPoE connection fail issue to be resolved(spoken to a dozen ppl at Telkom to no avail) and so my shinny brand new ADSL line has been sitting idle for 2 weeks + more.At this rate it might just be 1,005,286 - 1 = 1,005,285.

OT: Did you verify your line? Google it or search the forums

Or Jan Van Riebeeck. It's definitely his fault.
Those damn colonialists.

In as much Telkom deserve to be blamed for the state of DSL in SA, there is nothing stopping OLO from building their own infrastructure where Telkom is failing to deliver like we are now seeing in the FTTH front, but we know others they like low hanging fruits.
I think they've realised by now LLU won't happen so they are rolling out fibre. Copper can no longer compete. Only problem is they should have started back when self provisioning was made legal and the licenses were available.

Not really... it is part of their strategy. It is pointless trying to roll out fixed lines in deep rural and rural areas. So it makes plenty of sense to go for a wireless solution in those areas. It also reduces the cost to provide fixed line services, which is exactly what we are all wanting (other than full LLU or naked DSL). Hence you will see an increase in mobile (wireless) customers and mobile data...

What's ADSL infrastructure situation like in the townships? Do they even market to that segment? Satellite dishes are all over the place so wouldn't it make sense to market 2Mbps ADSL at least? They could connect many people as houses are small and in close proximity to each other.

Soweto had the best ADSL service for quite a few years. Even finished on top of Ookla tests in a few surveys. In some of the smaller, poorer areas there was a massive issue with copper cable theft and Telkom eventually applied the three strikes rule.
