I was pleased to find that the Telkom 'ADSL Availability and Speed Checker' web page https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/check.htm has been updated, and that my exchange (Parkview) has had its 10Mb line speed restored.

In celebration I spent two hours last evening calling every available Telkom ADSL support number in the vain hopes that I could have my line restored to its previous 10Mb. In the end I gave up - defeated - and logged a service call this morning.

The problem lies in the fact that the call-centre screens are only capable of setting a line to 4Mb ...

If anyone knows of a secret 'phone number that I can call I would apppreciate it ...

I now understand the meaning of Telkom's slogan 'partners for life': if you sign up (i.e. partner) with Telkom expect to have your lifespan severely reduced ...

Just checked mine, it has also changed to:

"Max speed supported by your exchange: 10240"

Doesn't really mean much to me however, my line can barely supprt 4 meg.

I phoned 10219 to upgrade; they checked, said my copper only supported 6Mbs and performed the upgrade. Took about 5 mins.

does anyone from the upper highway in durban have a10meg line ?

I'm on the phone with Telkom now - they are being as useless as always! 25 minutes and one person is transferring to me from 1 person to another.

Gosh, the page does not load in Chrome, had to use IE9 even then it is still messed up (with compatibility mode on)

I am using IE9 & found that it depends on the route taken to gain access to the speed checker screen (assuming that there is only one such page)

There are times when the page renders perfectly, others when it bombs ...

Just like the rest of Telkom's ADSL service ...
