Telkom ADSL Capping

@mith Did you do that 40GB after being capped? Did it show on the blended or local-only side?

Yes that was after being capped. It showed only on the blended side and NOT on the local.
i.e my account was capped, started using the local only and had done about 2gb.....after that I could connect to international and started downloading like normal but it was reflecting on the blended and not on the local.
My total blended only was about 40gb.

From what I remember from speaking to telkom if you go over your local limit...they will charge you.....

Ive gotten the downloading bug now cant stop :P , mine is counting towards blended usage and was capped before

Thanks man. First month on adsl so don't know how these things work.
hey, im also on my first month with ADSL- just signed up 2 days ago- so u mean that although we are officially given 5Gigs, we are allowed more?
thats cool if it was like on a regular basis, so i know i dont have to be too strict while surfing or downloading anything.

well yes in this case....but I must advice you to be careful...just because other people can get past their international cap doesn't mean you can as well....sometimes its a glitch in the system for some users and NOT ALL users.
It doesn't happen very often....

Just be careful with all these downloads that most will be leaving overnight now...
The 300TB you got queued up right now to rape the international could change to a R15/GB bill overnight with a quick account reconnect from telkom's side!

i still feel if you stay within your total allocation they don't have legs to stand on. lets take a 5 gig account as an example: in a normal month if their capper is working correctly, they let you have 5 gig of blended plus 20 local gigs after that. so the total allocation is 25 gig per month. now it happens you racked up 20gB on a blended session while they were out of whack and now everything's fixed -you're capped and back on local.
this is where some ppl say aslong as your local usage on their tracker does'nt exceed the allocation, you're entitled to all of it........".no worries and 'ol ek sè!"
i disagree because in the T&Cs (under the 'Monitoring Bandwidth:' section) they're quite sticky about it being your responsibility to monitor your own usage along with the tracker. in my opinion as per mentioned example; you're entitled to 5gB more. you agreed to keep track of how much is coming and going off your computer. you should have assumed when you would normally cap, so good luck explaining it was your intent to use more than you're se'posed to :)
@mith as for this not happening often, do a search for 'telkom cap' on these forums and see how many past threads there are. granted, it's rare for this anomaly to last this long. usually it just lasts an hour or so, and sometimes you'll get full int access even-though the tracker shows you're on the local session, that it goes by unnoticed by the masses for the most part.
second to last thing :)
experience has shown us it's best not to talk about these things in public. popular threads attract the attention of el telekomicia diablo's minions. and that leads to it being fixed sooner rather than later.
finally (i promise), don't be greedy guys. greed is prolly why cheap uncapped turned out to suck as much as it does

Yep. That is the surefire safe way. But try explaining that to a client. The one I e.g. work with know how to stay within her 10GB local. She keeps checking the bottom Local Usage counter. If it is <10GB, she continues pulling whatever from work. But she only checks that and cannot be bothered with "total" usage.

Ok.

For all the silly people who are bumping the thread (and my complaining about isn't helping the situation).

WHEN YOU MENTION THAT TI CAPPING IS SCREWED AND YOU TALK ABOUT IT HERE, IT ENDS UP BEING FIXED A LOT QUICKER THAN IF U JUST KEPT IT TO YOURSELF.

So like the #1 rule of Fight Club...

I agree, I say we should have a Telkom ADSL Capping sticky (not this one), explaining to users all there is to know about telkom sometimes not capping its users.

Dude. Calm the heck down. I'm bumping this just for you by the way. I'm 99.9995% sure someone at telkom knows about this already. I'm also 99.995% sure that they know about these things before we even do.

You give Telkom too much credit. Considering Telkom is well...Telkom, chances are we actually know more than they do. Otherwise why would we, THEIR customers, have to help troubleshoot a problem they insist doesn't exist, or give them data they should already have, in the thread here:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/268237-LATENCY!!!

Also, considering this topic covers questions that have been asked a bajillion times before, you'd think people would use the search function? Or low and behold what a simple search of Google brings up when you use the terms "Telkom capping gone over cap".

http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=e...ing+gone+over+cap&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Jumping Jahozafat! First item on Google!

The reason that I rant is simple. In the past, when this problem hasn't been posted on MYBB, Telkom hasn't bothered to fix it for up to 3 weeks! The moment someone posts on this forum, it is guaranteed to be fixed within a few days.

And the reasons why I am posting here, therefore bumping the thread are:

- I have completed all the downloads that I want.
- Your inbox is full Id13.

well just to let you guys know, I was sitting on ~9GB and all of a sudden the tracker just reported an error. The next day that I looked, I was over21GB and still not capped! So they screwed up somewhere, because there is NO way the I downloaded that much overnight O_o

woke this morning and they tell me i am over my 9gigs yet yesterday i had 3 gigs left but international is still working.

allow me to cast your memories back to when Afrihost first launched. remember that first month their capper didn't work either? we were all like 'if an isp doesn't cap me it's not my problem' but what happened the following month?
now i know some smartass is gonna flame with 'bull you noob! i did 200gB in the past and nothing happened', well just remember there's a first time for everything...
