Telkom ADSL performance complaints roll in

And so it begins. What makes matters worse is the lack of a Telkom rep on this board.
Shoudn't assume/comment from ignorance -- your statement is plain false because there has been a (surprisingly active) Telkom rep (nick = ranger) on this board throughout the switch-over :)

One thing that will annoy me, when I phoned Telkom ISP they said there was no problem and I must log a line fault problem... so I do that, and guy comes out over the weekend and tells me there is no problem with my line, and mentions problem with ISP, and call-out charge if there is no problem with line... I then log another issue with Telkom ISP who the respond and say there is a problem.... I'll be seriously pissed if I'm charged for a false call-out because they told me to log a line fault.

my torrents etc are all back up to full speed since sunday i think..
but-- since 1 feb i've had to log a maybe 4 faults coz of line issues. customer services keep saying they cant see any traffic on my exchange.. then a day or 2 later its back to normal... then the next day down again..
sigh..
i dont mind the hiccups really, as long as there is promise of a solution soon!
as soon as my line stabilizes i wanna go onto the 4mb uncapped HYFR!

There are threads all over mybb about the performance issues on TelkomInternet, not to mention the press releases last month about the fact that they were going to perform heavy maintenance on their network this month.

Irrespective of what some call-center person at TelkomInternet told you, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that you're still only putting yourself at risk for a call-out charge by logging a line fault with Telkom. So you still take the risk? Well then you'll be the one raging when they do charge you... Good luck & Have fun :)

I take it you then get all your advise from the forum? Apparently they're always in the wrong, and you should never phone Telkom, its always ISP related.

Still a very happy TI Uncapped customer... last week was a bit annoying but ranger kept us ap to date on the cutover snags - kudos to him!

I enjoy the lack of shaping/throttling/whatever during the day; line up DL's before I leave home and it flies along!

Slight mislead from title perhaps :p, it may have implied to some if your line is with Telkom but ISP is another and you had a problem :whistling: .

I agree with all that has been said about ranger, he is just awesome. The NEW network is awesome imo :)

Further feedback can be found in the iSP Discussion section for further reading of how things have been / currently are.

I think I have a right to be a bit upset with the:
-datedness
-accuracy
-detail
of this supposed article.

But, I guess research, accuracy, balance, lack of bias etc. don't generate page views and ad views, while sensationalism does.

I'm getting huge issues with intermittent dropping of connectivity.

We are seeing a lot more utilisation in Cape Town and surrounds than we expected. We are working out the details of what we can do, hopefully by the weekend, to improve the experience there to match what other regions are experiencing.

Maybe you are getting special service ;)
I suspect you have a problem with Telkom the ADSL line provider not Telkom Internet the data provider - have you tested with other ISP accounts?
Yes, that does seem to be the problem, its such a mission to get help on the helpline that I usually wait a day or two to see if it will just fix itself.

What about the more important issue of congested exchanges..**** you telkom.

Apart from last week which was really dreadfull im a happy 2Mbps uncapped customer. Nntp, torrents & streaming youtube all performing rather well. Achieving full line speed during the day is really just a bonus as i dont mind shaping during bussiness.

I think rpm need to give this some time and if in time to come still performing at this level should do a follow up article.

Ranger has been really helpfull and managed too sort out the initial problems when this kicked off.

I myself have never been a fan of telkom im sure we all know their history but credit where its due.

I hope i dont eat humble pie a month from now. Lets see how this space unfolds.

You have been caught out by the incorrect headline for this article. The article discusses Telkom ISP yet the headline says Telkom ADSL. So, did you read the article?

Ranger has been doing a fantastic job.

+1.

At last seems to be much better and before these last 10 days did not have any significant problems

Well, mine is still incredibly slow most of the time. The erratic speed eventually kills every download.
