Telkom ADSL speed increase details

cant wait to see this....hmmm the foul stench of skepticism always seems linger around story's like these when Telkom is involved.

check this **** out, tomorrow telkom will release a press statement contradicting the call center's info...

I see Telkom is still treating its customers like mushrooms. Keep them in the dark and feed them sh#t.

at random... hmm i get this is part of a trial, but come one.

I know this is getting old, but... what about the 384kbit users?
The last I heard they will not change those anytime soon(a feeeew years still).

Posting from my cellphone so can't search , copy/paste links here.

It has been mentioned in a few threads.

What's the point of upgrading the lines from 512Kb/s->1Mb/s?
Telkom back-haul links can't cope - the contention ratios are already too high.
Telkom needs to also upgrade the back-haul to handle the increased capacity.
My 4Mb/s line crawls to 0.2Mb/s due to the exchange back-haul link being over subscribed.

Telkom took the safe bet in upgrading the 512Kb/s lines - these represent the fewest customers,
The price of 512K ADSL is too close to 4Mb/s, so most people choose 4Mb/s or 384K.
They should upgrade the 384Kb to 1Mb/s

The 4Mb/s->10Mb/s has only been done on 2% of the exchanges.
see http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/province/ for details

Suck it up or upgrade. Telkom is not a charity.
No, they are a state protected monopoly using infrastructure paid for with tax payers money.

Well, you pay for entry level ADSL, and that is what you get.
For crying out loud, what people pay for entry level ADSL in this country is a total rip off!! Not every one can afford paying R132 + R413 for a 4mbit ADSL line (and that is before they have even transferred a single bit of data).
