Agreed. I am still during with 4096kbps. Not that it is a problem, it is just something which will be nice to have.

Telkom back-haul links can't cope - the contention ratios are already too high.
Telkom needs to also upgrade the back-haul to handle the increased capacity.
My 4Mb/s line crawls to 0.2Mb/s due to the exchange back-haul link being over subscribed.

Telkom took the safe bet in upgrading the 512Kb/s lines - these represent the fewest customers,
The price of 512K ADSL is too close to 4Mb/s, so most people choose 4Mb/s or 384K.
They should upgrade the 384Kb to 1Mb/s


The 4Mb/s->10Mb/s has only been done on 2% of the exchanges.

Woke up to 7Mb/s this morning (12/05/2011) in Victory Park Johannesburg (Linden Exchange)
7004 Down 631 Up.
Don't know what to make of this?
 
I am on the top package and only get 3.6mb/s. Telkom should first address the prime customers speed before giving away freebies.
 
Absolutely zero detail has emerged. We've all already known the entire content of this article for a few weeks now.
 
i was under the impression that every 512 was being upgraded and it was a permanent move.... now its a trial by telkom.... and only "some" lines are being upgraded?? wtf hellkom?? do this country a favor and bomb 384kb! change 512 to 1mb and 384 to 512! i mean we are supposedly trying to move the country forward... are we not??
 
I don't believe this trial BS! Why would they need to trial it, they know exactly which exchanges can handle it or not!
 
Why is everyone moaning and complaining about this? Why not celebrate that Telkom is doing SOMETHING? They've been doing little to nothing for a while and now this move to improve broadband in SA. It could be a sign of good things to come.

now that the 1mb upgrades have started how are they gonna find space for the supposed 20mb increases they
spoke of earlier!!!! they really need to upgrade some of the exchanges
