Telkom ADSL speed increase details

You must be another rainbow nation champion. Telkom is either still doing fsckall, hiding it away very well or putting all their eggs in their 8ta basket.

Remember those retarded "next generation network" telkom adds that were annoying the living crap out of everyone last year ? Yes indeed, we haven't caught the slightest whiff of that super advanced world class network yet. We still only have 4mbps ADSL, which is nothing short of a joke.
 
Hey, this is Africa. Things happen on Africa time.
The rest of the world have entry level MB+ speeds, but hey, this is africa. Be happy that we have "broadband"

Stop being stupid, the info your giving is just as useless, I could just as well say, Everyone in South Africa stop complaining about internet and move your butts to EU or U.S.

384 should be upgraded to 1 mb for the same price as 384, 1 mb should be made 4 mb for the same price as 512, and 4 mb should be upgraded to 10 mb for the price of 1 mb.

Those should be the norm, low low end should be 1 mb. When 20 mb comes 4 mb should be low and again 10mb will go to 20mb, 4mb to 10mb and 1mb to 4mb.

We all know there is greed involved so that would not happen here. We all know this is how it should be.

What's the speed like during "prime time"?

I also pay for the top package, but during "prime time" can only get 0.2Mb/s :mad:

I get 3.4Mb/s in the mornings, and it slows to 0.2Mb/s in the afternoon and evenings.

Not a line issue as SNR + Attenuation indicate a line capable of ~7Mb/s
Not a ADSL modem issue - tried 3 different models.
Not an ISP issue - tried 4 ISP's with various unshaped / shaped packages.
All the same, fast in the mornings, slowing down in the afternoon and evening.

Sounds like a case for Ms L van Zyl of ASA fame

I have a pretty good signal, but due to Telkom's lack of back-haul infrastructure I'm limited to 0.2Mbps during "prime time".

We are being ripped off by Telkom, paying R413+R133 for 4Mbps, but getting 0.2Mbps.:mad:
 
I had 384kbps with closer call 3 for R599, did a trial upgrade to 1MBps - the automatically upgrade you to max 10Mbps - but my line could only be stable at 4Mpbs. But after two weeks, I decided it was Bulls**t. I got a Cell-C modem(60GB), a compatible wifi-router and downgraded my Telkom line to prepaid. Now I get min 1.5Mbps (at times goes up to 8-10Mpbs), for R250 a month, and spend R100 pm for land lines - including international calls. F**k Telskum!!!
 
I so wish they'd up the 384k connections. Sure, uncapped helps, but when you want to watch something online and need to wait 10 minutes for a 2 minute video to buffer... That's just torture...
 
Please update 384 to at least 512.
I get the idea that Youtube videos will stream with less hiccups with a slightly faster connection.

I think you have a case to put to the ASA if Telkom are not sorting it out.
It would be very interesting to see the ruling and if Telkom do anything about it!
 
we pay the most for broadband in the world and receive crumbs in return... but thats how things work in south africa. its the mentality.

its like the open toilets in the free state, the mayor dont see anything wrong. because her husband was the contractor. but she lives in a palace...

uncapped - no need for for, "their" customers is happy with their cap?

384 should cost something like R59-00, 1mb around R159-00 and 4mb around R299-00, not the redicilous prices we currently pay.

I've learned not too invest too much hope into any company that comes with these promises, we have been let down time and again, and again.
