Telkom ADSL speed increase details

Ok now that the plebs are getting more value what about us 4meg users ;P

Tax payers might have paid for the initial copper lines rollout, but that money surely didnt pay for all the new DSLAM equipment or any copper lines installed after being privatized.

Then why do I feel like I'm donating to them? There is another option to 'suck it or upgrade' for 384k users - cancel and get a mobile broadband deal.

Entry level should be 2meg. 384k just wastes electricity and is not environmentally friendly.
 
what about all the 4mb users which are suppose to be upgraded to 10mb...

trial might only be few areas
but they have to increase speed or drop prices
mtn.vod.n cellc all offer 2gigs a month for 149 plus with free modem etc
beat that telkom?
telkom might match that with their 8ta
 
I do not buy your guys argument that an upgrade of 384 lines is charity. Neither do I buy the argument that telkom is not making profit on those lines. The fact of the matter is that the 4meg line roughly 3x the price of the 384 line but is 10x faster. So, 384 is more likely subsidising the faster lines.
 
It is actually terrible that we have to get excited that telkom is thinking about upgrading 512 users to 1mps and making us feel that they are doing us a huge favour, while their adsl is highly overpriced, 1mps is actually crap compared to international standards and getiing adsl means you have to pay for an unwanted telephone line.

We need naked adsl.

We need a true competitor to telkom.
 
Do not trust Telkom

This "strange" move with no rate increase, may very well be the 1st step in a process for Telkom to restructure their pricing and DSL catagory model. They may want to grow the revenue on their 384 customer base next with a very "lucrative" speed increase to a "wopping" 512 line at "only" R40 (or so) more per month plus a few insignificant "attractive" extras. Since 384 has a large base this could be a very nice and easy way to increace revenue for Telkom with no extra cost to Telkom. Remember by far the most users of Telkom services in SA do not read this forum or web pages.

Do NOT trust Telkom.
 
Telkom’s helpdesk was more helpful, and confirmed that Telkom has upgraded a group of 512Kbps ADSL lines to 1Mbps, adding that the upgrades form part of a trial by Telkom.

So it could all be reversed if they find reason to pull the plug ... ouch!
 
They should upgrade us 384 line users to 1MB for free also :) I'm sure there network can manage it!

Government has a 39% share in telkom. I'm pretty sure your tax money is still paying for your adsl.

That is more or less exactly what I said in another thread regarding these upgrades.

Come on guys, stop subsidising others and getting ripped off with 384, upgrade to 4mbps.
