Hi there

We are trying to find out if Telkom has started their ADSL speed upgrades yet. If you have a 384kbps ADSL line or 1Mbps ADSL line, can you please check whether it has been upgraded?

To check: The best way is to log into the router and check what rate your line syncs at

No router access: Just do a speed test and check if you get higher speeds than expected - http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/

It will be great if you can give feedback here (Yes/No and your suburb)

When I checked this morning, unchanged, my line is still syncing at 1Mbps.

This is in Northriding, Fourways.

About 3 days ago My Router lost the connection to the Exchange, this is weird because it never happened before.

So then I restarted the router and saw a sync speed of 512kbps on the router page, I didn't think much of it and turned the router off when I went to sleep.

The next morning it was 384kbps again. :(

I live in bellville and I always see Telkom working at the Exchange near me, maybe they are preparing it for the extra load it is going to take when the upgrades happen.

I have a 1024 kbps ADSL line, Telkom as my ISP ... my SpeedTest results (local)
Test conducted on Tue Jun 05 2012 11:05:00 GMT+0200 (South Africa Standard Time)

Download Speed: 944 kbps (118 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 411 kbps (51.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 66 ms

... are pretty much the same as they have been all along

I thought they were only going to do it in August/September, Ive requested a speed upgrade which took about 6 hours through mweb (excellent considering it can take up to 3 weeks). One thing I have noticed earlier in the year is that they dramatically shortened my lines distance to the exchange or DSLAM, I had attenuation of 65db in January, and in February my line went down for about half an hour and came back on with 25db. The area is Bryanston. However my uncle living in Fourways has an attenuation of 60.5db even though Telkom are supposedly upgrading the local loop there.

Still 384. Sleepy Hollow aka Pietermaritzburg. According to Telkom our exchange only supports 1meg. So doubt we will get upgraded in this lifetime.

Telkom Uncapped 1024 account. Still 1024 (Port Elizabeth) - still flying!

Had to go to Telkom shop to change phone in office, so asked lady when DSL speed upgrade was going to be implemented. Big sigh from her, she got up, disappeared for 3-4 mins, came back and said "I don't know".

Surely that's a bit higher than a 1024 line? It seems like you no longer have the TCP overhead! Does your router still say that you're syncing at 1024?

Can anyone else confirm this? I was looking forward to being upgraded from 1 to 2 Mb/s

All DSLAMs are at least 4Mb/s capable. Your personal "speed" will de dependent on your copper connection and the length of said connection to the DSLAM (not as the crow flies).
