Telkom ADSL triple play planned

Regardless of all the numbers cited in the article and threads, I still feel like I am being fleeced! :(

Oh you most definitely are and none of us will ever argue that you aren't.

The whole concept of a massive line rental is a scam. Most of these Telkom lines have been paid for many times over. The massive rental fee is just insane.

However I do get annoyed at people throwing random numbers out like "20 million". 20 million annually on staff for an organisation the size of Telkom?!? Come on now just do a little math before you post things like that and you will see how ridiculous you are being:

let us assume that Telkom pays out R2 000 000 a month in salaries (the claim was R20 million annually, so at R2 million a month that is actually R24 million but it is nice and easy to work with).

Now assume each employee on average makes R5000 per month (stupid figure and probably highly inaccurate, but when you take into account the massive amounts of money given to board members I think it is pretty conservative as far as estimates go)

R2 000 000 / R5000 = 400.

So...Telkom has 400 employees. According to Telkom they actually had 25, 575 employees as of 2006. Well done. Just awesome.

Now I know my numbers are no more concrete than others presented but come on. Reuben September alone pulled R12 827 648 last year from his package. How can anyone say R20 million should cover salaries.

And the last time I checked he was earning 8000 per hour imagine... the horrible assumptions

Thanks for letting us know. My wife was just asking me about this over supper.

"Darling," she asked, "did lunar_dog read the Telkom Triple Play article on MyBB?"

I shrugged, but now, thanks to this, I can get back to her and put her mind at ease.

post of the month

What are you talking about?

Surely R173 million is pocket change to telecoms companies. While that may seem like a lot of money to you these sort of companies bring in double digit billions annually.

R173 million is like car guard money.

Double digit billions .... for what selling air for morons, with a technology invented centuries ago... the solution is ...each communities should have their own communication tower.
