Telkom and 512Kbps line rental.

This is an age old debate that keep popping up on here. They've got us by the balls unfortunately, unless you go wireless, Telkom has you.
 
Hmmm. Then I will start my campaign directly with Telkom. Failing that, a more public approach...

The issue is not so much with Telkom than it is with infrastructure/location. I've dealt with Telkom on several occassions over the past 15 years and have had the same experience: If they don't feel they can provide a specific quality of service to you, they won't provide it (or, upgrade and THEN provide it)

Going from 384->512 should be relatively easy since the distance and copper quality shouldn't affect the speed at all, but the jump to 1mbps and higher means you have to be closer to the exchange to achieve those speeds; which in some areas Telkom just can't provide. Coupled with obvious bottlenecks/infrastructure age, it's going to be tough.

With their own mobile network also launching, I'm pretty sure most of their resources are being dumped into that (for backhaul etc), so it'll only be a matter of time before (I hope) see the changes you brought up. Probably November next year (they love changing **** in November)
 
So I sent them an email. Waiting for response.

AcidRaZor, I hear what you say about infrastructure but at least the cities should be upgradeable immediately.

i fear you already lost before even starting. problem is, technically "fastest" is 1 megabit (640 kilobit garunteed) -- anything higher is considered a bonus
