Greetings all,

I actually came across this request before but it had no answer. So, before you ask, yes some minor issues:

Connectivity slows down some times (nothing but my PC connected and not doing updates) which rectifies after 1-30 minuets on its own or I just reboot the router. Secondly, the internet connection light on the front goes red while still online (like it is right now), is annoying because I can normally glance from outside the room to quickly check if it's really down or the device isn't connected properly.

The slow down is annoying when it happens at 10/11 at night and I'm in bed reading things online, to get up and reboot the router at that point it a pain.

I was on the Aztech site and did a search, big surprise, Telkom has obviously rebranded/re-model-numbered since there is no such product listed. I really hate it when they (ie, Telkom, Vodacom, MTN) do that and the main suppler doesn't acknowledge their own products existence.

Any ways, any suggestions to where there may be updated firmware for this little guy. Generally it isn't doing to badly so replacing it just isn't worth it at the moment.

Thanks.

Hi ice_blade_za

I have the same router and I am alos getting the red internet light, but it is still working. What I also found was when I try login to the router config I get a 403 forbidden error. I reboot the router and then all is good again for a few minutes, light is green and I can login to the router. Then 10 min later light is red and I get 403 error again. Also have looked and only firmware I could find was the stock firmware.

same router here, same red light. There is no new firmware update for it

Have a Telkom Aztech 700WR-3G and having the same problem with the red light .

I have the same problem with same router. When I connect with my old Netgear, no problem.

do all you people get the 403 forbidden error when trying to login to the router when the light is red?

And me, been like this for last 10 days or so. Think it might be a Telkom fault rather than a manufacturer fault?

Same Router, same issues!

I'm experiencing another issue and not sure if you guys are getting it to though.

SNR every minute or so drops down to the negatives, then back up, then negative, then back up. Can't stream, can't do anything.

Sometimes unplugging everything and waiting 10 minutes, then plugging it all in again helps, sometimes not. It's at random times too, not consistant to time of day.

I've tried different ISP's, but that isn't the problem.

Was wondering if it's the router perhaps? Attenuation stays very much the same mostly.

Highly frustrating!

Hi

My internet does not seem to have an issue, only issue I am having is that when the light is red you can't login to the router. Has anybody tried to call Telkom about this issue? I have not as yet as I thought it was just my router.

Hi All, Try this:
I had the same problem. Green light for 30 minutes, then Red. COuld still browse the Internet, but not log onto the router (403). I logged a call with Telkom. They checked the line and said all was right. Then the very helpful lady checked what my line was syncing at.
I have a 10MB line, but it was syncing at 12MB. She dropped the speed back to 10MB. I reset the router and have been Red light free for the past three hours.

I will keep an eye on it, but it appears the router was "over-syncing" (if that is even a word) than what my line actually was.

Maybe this "fix" will work for you guys?

I have just been given one of these routers and I am searching for the manual. The router came without any documentation or disks.

Anyone know where one can find manuals please?

Update: there at few guides plus a firmware update for this router available at this website.

http://www.telkomphones.co.za/product-category/adsl_data/

BTW I also found a help line. 0860 224 357. Only available in normal working hours.
Will keep you posted on developments.

Still looking for the manual that would have come with this router please anyone.

I had a different Telkom Aztec modem five years ago which also gave me endless problems. That specific modem had a Texas Instruments AR7WRD cpu which an alternative firmware Routertech supported. Seems your best bet would be to find out which chip is inside and look for another alternative firmware provider. The larger ones like Openwrt and DD-wrt doesn't support most ADSL models so you need to look for more specialized firmware according to the chip. You can also find out if there are any rebranded similar models, mine for instance had about five different clones of the exact same hardware, and try that model's firmware. I was able to load new firmware through the U-boot interface of the router. You can also connect to the serial interface of the router to use the linux terminal to better investigate. My model for instance had too little memory and causing it to overheat, after changing the firmware to a lighter one the modem was rock solid.

thanks or the info, I will follow your advice.

In the meantime an email to 2ctelecoms has been answered so I now have the manuals for both the routers I have been given.

It would seem quite a few persons are simply dumping the 700WR -- I am going to try and do the firmware update that is available and see if I can use the router instead of the really old Billion router I have at the moment.

As a matter of interest to most in this thread, there seems to be a huge incompatibility in the NTP server setting at the moment. The custom firmware that Telkom has built keeps resetting the NTP settings and then the line drops. For a quick fix to get it up, change the NTP server to induna.saix.net and use the menu to reboot.

Thanks for this info, I have done as you advised and so far had no problems with the drops in internet.
I was at the point to buy a new router as I had reset this one multiple times and same thing kept happening.

My Aztech keeps losing the connection and when re-inserting the password one has to do it through the wizard because the Internet settings won't do anything. PS red all the way and according to the Telkom guy it's just like that on fibre.
Seems I need to force Telkom to give me a new router.

ice_blade_za thank you VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY much for this information!!!! I cannot thank you enough!

I have spoken to Telkom customer care 3 times and a Telkom Direct shop twice concerning my Aztech router that kept on disconnecting. Would of been much more times if they didn't take so extremely long to answer.

Anyway, why can't they just give an easy and straight forward answer like this?

I changed my NTP server and Bob's your uncle, no problems whatsoever since then!

I wonder, why can't the operators at Telkom just be given the correct information on how to fix a problem????

I ALMOST bought a new router because I was told to take my Aztech router to a Telkom store, whereby they told me it will take 21 days to fix!!!! 21 days without internet!!!! NO WAYS!!!!

Anyway, thank you again ice_blade_za for saving me money and helping out a guy in need!
