They said they are replacing the copper wires with fibre, and they said our current call plan falls away and we need to choose a package to go forward with. Problem is the lady i spoke to said i will receive an email, but i never received an email.

Telkom website is no use, so now i have no idea what to do, and the changeover is happening beginning next month.

Can it be done via the telkom portal ? Or how do i go about this ?

Unless you really need fibre for Internet purposes I would also look at one of the cheap LTE packages that are available. I have a 30+30GB Pure LTE package from Afrihost/MTN which costs me R199pm and offers a fast reliable connection to the Internet for a lot cheaper than a fibre connection.

Telkom also has some cheap plans if you want to stick with them (most customers don't!). You could then use a Voip service to make voice calls (you can port your existing landline number to the Voip service) or just use a prepaid Telkom Mobile service. Telkom has some reasonably priced 61 day prepaid data bundles that you could split over two months to reduce your monthly spend i.e. a 60+60GB data bundle costs R459 or R230pm if used over two months etc. I currently use a Telkom prepaid Sim Sonke plan to make landline and cell calls (30c per minute calls to Telkom numbers) and purchase cheap Mo'Nice airtime if I need to make long calls.

Afrihost Pure LTE

Freshphone Voip

Location location , where are you, got to a telkom store can talk to them. Did you see people putting fiber in near you.

Yes, earlier this year, fibre boxes were installed at every unit in our townhouse complex.

@Jake45 Many thanks

Ditch Telkom and use Afrihost as your ISP, much more transparent and their website doesnt look like dog vomit.

The fibre provider might be openserve so you can pick from a range of ISP's of your choice.

Just get one of the telkom unlimited home plans, uncapped data, free mobile data sim, free calls to all telkom mobile & landlines.

Edit: and you keep your phone number

There are many MyBroadband news articles, and posts in the forums, on this topic. See for example:

At least you got informed, they rocked up at my house one day and changed mine to LTE throttled at 4mb/sec. The phone worked for about three weeks and then stopped, I eventually gave up and changed to a 80+80gb package with them and then got charged R980 claw back fee on the router.
