Telkom cancellation nightmare

Telkom cancellation nightmare

Telkom's cancellation system remains a problem for many customers, with certain users still being incorrectly blacklisted by the company.

A MyBroadband reader stated that a Telkom account he had cancelled in 2018 came back to haunt him in 2020.
Cancelled my ADSL and land-line, all done on web page and got refund without no problem

They are appalling and have zero interest in helping customers

I have ported to a Freshphone VOIP account and cannot wait to see them go. The mistakes in the invoices and arrogance of the staff are dreadful

The staff in the Telkom shops are rude and unhelpful to the extreme. I have seen people reduced to tears due to the bad attitude

Update

Despite Telkom stating that the issue has been resolved, the affected reader told MyBroadband that he was still experiencing problems.

The reader told MyBroadband that contrary to Telkom’s statement, his name has still not been cleared with the credit bureau.

He said he has been unable to elicit a letter from Telkom stating that his account is paid up and closed so that he can clear his credit record at TransUnion.
And he will continue to experience problems, that is the nature of hellkom

South Africans - CRY too easily

They did the same to me a while ago where I cancelled 2 LTE contracts that came to the end of their 24 month period. Despite me submitting cancellations in person and about a zillion on line and email cancellation they continued to debit my account. I eventually resorted to contacting the bank every month to reverse the amount and hellkom handed me over for debt collection. I went to the ombudsman and was told it is not within their area. Eventually I paid hellkom over R6K for a service they did not deliver and I did not receive just to get rid of them. The best R6K I have ever spend!!!! The day that they burn to the ground I'll be there with my meat for a lekker braai :)

Same with me, I had issues with Telkom, ADSL was unusable and they told me they don't work on copper anymore. I switched over to LTE and cancelled my ADSL and I still have my original cancellation letter. I was handed over last month because of this issue.

Same. Why is it so easy for any company to just willy-nilly blacklist people? Absolutely ridiculous. TransUnion should scrap all Telkom related issues on their side. Telkom and any other company must be able to absolutely prove before they can blacklist anyone.

We going through the same issue now only difference is we are trying to buy a new house. Telkom now wants R3000 for payment my wife stopped after they continued to debit her account but cancelled the service as requested.

Wow, this brings back memories - exact same experience. Lucky I have legal insurance, so they took up the case with ICASA, Telkom and the Credit unions. Eventually it was sorted, or so I thought. 1 year later, same account, was relisted with the credit bureaus and I had to do the same process all over again. Just pulled a report - still all clear :)

I had the same problem. I cancelled my account with Telkom. They then invoiced me for double what I owed - charging me for services that I had not used.

I also wasted many 'phone calls and e-mails.

In the end they got nothing.

@rpm should contact TransUnion and ask for comment on this.

I honestly think this is needed now.

Transunion and other credit bureaus need to actually explain to the public what steps they are taking to deal with Telkom consistent false "listings".

I'm in the same boat. Gave cancellation notice 30 Oct 2017 to end the service 30 Nov 2017. Product was paid monthly at the end of the same month. Thus debit order end of Nov paid for usage end November. End December Telkom put through a debit order. I cancelled it each month at the bank for 6 months. Not a single email, phone call or visit to a Telkom store could resolve the issue. They handed me over to attorneys. Still fighting and it is now 3 years later.

What was it the other day? "What Telkom must do to survive" or something like that.
What Telkom does really well is paying bonuses to top management. Not much else...

What penalties are there for false or erroneous listings?

Is the customer always guilty until proven innocent?

Thats what I want to know to be honest.
It can't be that Telkom can just willy nilly constantly list people as bad payers, and constantly have them overturned. There has to be some sort of censure for the company and the massive negative impact they have on peoples lives because Telkom are incompetent.

I am trying to cancel my Telkom services online. All goes well until the final step where it hangs on "processing request." Any advice?
