Ye well ... yesterday it told me i don't have 10mbps supported ... today it tells me I have :P

Thanks for the article ... seems it gave Telkom a kick in the pants to update their info.

Presicely my point. This whole 10Mb upgrade thing has all gone very quiet recently. Telkom had their little marketing campaign of BS, which made many people upgrade to 4Mbps (including me) in the hope of getting 10Mbps, but Telkom never did any 10Mb upgrade. So, now they rake in more cash from people like me and there is no need to follow through with the "upgrades", as people stop asking about it and eventually forget.

Come on MYBB - get some answers out of them!!! We want definite time frames here. BY WHEN ARE ALL THE UPGRADES SUPPOSED TO BE DONE? We want something tangible.

If you are on a 4Mbps line, are you not supposed to be upgraded automatically if your exchange supports it?

man, these upgrades just annoy me. telkom hypes us up and strings us along for years with promises of upgrades. then after countless delays the day finally arrives.. less than 1% of people get upgraded. telkom pat themselves on the back. 99% are still stuck in the same old boat - but now since telkom has officially released the upgrades, we have no right to complain. this is the best.

Recently read about someone on the forum from Orange Grove with a 011485**** number with a 10mb line. I stay in Sydenham, have a 011485**** number, supposedly connect to the same Orange Grove exchange but the site says the service is unavailable at this stage. Seems like the site either is not updated correctly or supplies incorrect information.

Anyways... what would the point of having a 10mb line be? The uncapped 10mb accounts are ridiculously expensive. Do folks just want their downloads to download faster? Will gaming pings/latency (?) improve? Or what. . .

Well my modem is dying or my line quality is going down, so the new Billion is on its way, hopefully next year March I will be on 10mbps, just in time before my plane leaves for faster broadband pastures.

When this availability checker was initially made public, I checked and it told me I could get 10Mbps on my line. Today it tells me I can't, even though my router says the fastest stable speed I could get is 9.9Mbps. So yeah, super accurate.

Telkom denies 10 Mbps ADSL checking problems

Telkom denies information that its 10 Mbps ADSL checking tool provides inaccurate information; upgrades in store for February 2011

funny thing is that you can type in any numeric value and get the same old answer that actually was showing as "not found" before their coverup.

Are you ready for ultra high-speed?

To confirm whether you qualify for up to 10 Mbps fastest ADSL, please enter your telephone number in the field as indicated below.

1. Telephone Number: 666
2. Example: 0125554433
3. This service can not be converted to 10Mbps Fastest DSL at this stage. Please check again in future as we are continually upgrading the network.

however, i can sync at dsl2+ with my router still telkom says it's a lie and there is no 10mbs for me...

wel they are lying cause the checker doesnt work, out Dslam was upgraded and acording to the checker it supports 10mb, but when i called the tech department to push my line up to the max, they told me that on their sustems its shows our dslam is only on 6mb and i canot get anything faster.

The checker has not been updated since 14/01/2011. Has Telkom given up on upgrading exchanges to 10Mbps?

You know, Telkom, it would be far easier for you to just lie through your teeth and create an automated update script that'll affix a new date to that page every week or two.

The last database update to the checker is now more than a month ago and its dead wrong. The checker says that my exchange supports 10mbps, but Telkom itself says the DSLAM is connected by ATM and so can only do 4mbps. Only MetroEthernet can do 10mbps. If Telkom is so adamant that there is nothing wrong with the checker, perhaps I should ask them to tell my why I'm only getting 4mbps sync speed. They'll probably give me the old "service is dependant on many factors such as copper quality etc" but my line stats are perfect for 10mbps.

So now both the 10mbps checker and the general ADSL availability checker pages 404.

If there's one form of interest Telkom manages to compound with incredible efficiency, it's my interest in their ability to fail miserably. I get to help a family friend convince the techies/service signup folk that there is availability in our region sometime soon, again, too. Looking forward to that in a masochistic kind of way.
