Telkom Do Broadband 2, lags at night

Hi

I have a Telkom Do Broadband 2 account at telkom, and every night after 9 I start to lag terribly.
Is anyone else experiencing this, as telkom says it is nothing on their side....

Getting so irritated with companies with the monopoly.
 
For the last 2 or 3 weeks my ping in Team fortress 2 jumps anywhere from 80 - 800ms from around 6pm - 10 or 11pm sometimes less. It's the worst with telkom but it happens with afrihost as well. I'll post a traceroute as well when it happens again.

yeah congested exchange , wait for telkom to install some new "stuff" in your area, then there should be more bandwidth available.

Are you perhaps using wireless to connect to your ADSL modem?

I would strongly recommend that you use a LAN cable to perform those tests if you were using wireless up to this point!

If you weren't using wireless, then it could be that you're on a congested exchange OR something was downloading/uploading via your ADSL connection.
I would suggest that you do install something like NetLimiter 2 (v3 sux) or similar to monitor Internet traffic coming and going via your PC. Just make sure that no other PC's are connected and that your ADSL modem's WiFi is disabled during the tests. This way you can be pretty sure that your tests are accurate.

That is most likely a congested exchange.

My WiFi guess is probably wrong, because then the trace would've shown a high latency for the first hop to the ADSL modem too.

Our chuch is also experiencing ADSL issues on Sunday evenings in Upington if I'm not mistaken. I'll try to get traceroutes and ADSL stats from them in the next couple of days.
 
Thanks for the replies. I can't remember which thread, but someone posted a list of all the exchanges and the Durban north exchange had over 1000 free ports or something, not sure how it all works or if congestion is still possible with that many free ports. Is it possible it's because of the new MSAN's being implemented? I think durban north was one of the area's getting them.

I am using wireless but the router is next to my pc....
