Hi im new to the forums ok so this is my prob our location got adsl a couple of months back and ever since i got it ive been having endless problems with it i had a 384k line at first and it gave me alot of grief my router never sync @384 it went as low as 128 down so then later i upgraded to a 4meg line uncam from mweb and it was a wile back and stil getting endless probs my line keeps dropping never get ity so sync @ for meg atm its @ 704k and i have tested my modem filter and everything i know the prob is the line from the pole to my house but telkom keeps telling me that the phone is working fine and it makes me insane to keep hearing the same story over and over again so i contacted mweb and there was this one guy that sent me an email and said that the prob is not on my side and not on mweb but its telkom thats the prob he sent me the following "Field Result
ATUC Status No Defect

ATUC Current Rate 2624 kbps**
The current downstream speed established between the DSLAM and customer’s modem, e.g. 4096k, 512k or 384k.

ATUC SNR 16 dB
ATUC Attenuation 37.5 dB
ATUC Max Rate 4096 kbps
ATUC Min Rate 640 kbps
ATUC Alarm State No Alarm
ATUR Status No Defect
ATUR Current Rate 512 kbps

ATUR SNR 6 dB**
The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above 6 dB indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.

ATUR Attenuation 60.5 dB**
Attenuation refers to resistance. If this value is high, then signal quality is low, and vice versa. Is the customer far away from the exchange? Long copper lines could be the cause of attenuation. A value above 55 dB is of concern (bad).

ATUR Max Rate 512 kbps
ATUR Min Rate 256 kbps"
and from then i know its the line from the pole because its been fixed alot but never replaced and telkom does not seem to want to help me and i am a computer technician and ive recommended telkom to all my costumers and this is what i get in return i wil never recommend the ever to someone again and i got that email on 2011-04-06 18:00:41 3months after i got adsl and ive never in my life had this munch trouble and is asking any one to please tell me what i sould do coz i am out of options

You need to post the linestats as determined by your router. Write the figures down and then take the telephone off hook and leave the receiver like this. Look at the linestats again to see if there are any improvements. If there is a bad joint on the line you should see the attenuation improve (decrease) while the telephone is off hook. If this is the case then you do have a line fault. Is it easy to get a dial tone when you press the hook switch? You can also use a long stick to GENTLY shake the dropdown wire from the Telkom pole to your house while asking somebody to monitor the router for any loss of synchronisation.

If neither of these actions make any difference then try to find out exactly where the exchange is located in your suburb by asking one of the Telkom technicians who is working in the area. Drive to the exchange and accurately record the distance using the odometer. If the exchange is more than 4km away you are always going to have problems as ADSL needs a shorter line length to achieve high speeds.

Oh wow dude, use full stops. It helps me read :( and don't expect Telkom to help much. Not their strong point...
