Telkom drops ADSL and data prices further

Whoop dee fsucking doo. Minimum option I'd go for still costs:

R87 Line rental
R270 192k ADSL line
R399 10GB Axxess account (3GB cap is absolutely nuts)
----
R756 p.m.

Just how much money do they think I have?

Is Telkom claiming job creation and promoting business because of this measly decrease in a rental that is a sham? Isnt the price the whole thing that this forum has been raging against for so long? And now, for them to claim like it was THEIR idea. I so badly want to beeeehutch slap White. Or Ivy, or Vapi.

Good news, and another nail in the coffin of high prices, but my suggestion to everyone is if you can look past the hate in your hearts and order ADSL >>NOW<< if you plan to have it in the next 6 months. I'm already on a 5 week waiting list and with these price reductions it'll only get longer and longer. It's like trying to buy a super car - the waiting list just get's longer each day even before the car is on sale.

Hey...

According to my calculations, ADSL will be value for money in a couple of years time... but wait a minute... by then it will be old and slow.... there goes the value...

Mtn

SAAAAAAVE US!! How about some real value for money in this country... 10c per meg? R300 all inclusive no cap? Edge/3g? PLEASE?

Apologies if I missed anything, but what's the latest news on local capping? If that accompanies the 1 August price co-called "cuts", things are worse than ever.

What if you are on a 24 month contract. Will they reduce the fees aswell or will they just carrying making you pay the original price?

I'm pretty sure the price will come down as well.

Telkom are advertising

buy dropping the prices by 50 buck telkom are gettion some of the cheapest advertising the world all the stories with the headling "telkom drops prices"... is good for them

Are they waiting until August 1 to drop the prices? Trying to milk us for an extra month and still seem like good guys.

Some one needs a bee-at-ch smacking!

And their top-offering in August will be 1Mbps @ R600/month - see how they avoided the price of the 1Mbps service in their announcement because they know how expensive it will be.

While I agree with the sentiment on this forum that the pricing is still rediculously high, I'm saving R200 a month from the time I had my 512k line installed. What we need, in light of the local capping debacle, is for telkom to up the cap size from 3 gigs to 10 gigs across the board. While it's still not in line with international standards, it would be a very good step in the right direction.

I absolutely agree with this. The very least they could do is increase the cap to 10GB. It would make all the difference in the world to me.

This is good news according to me. The SNO will hopefully start soon. And the only way for them to get customers is to undercut Telkom. So with every price reduction from Telkom the SNO will have to ask even less for their offering. In the end this will start a price war to see who can get the biggest client base.

There should be no line rental - when this happens then I'll be impressed until then we're still being taken for a ride.

How the competition commission ever allows Telkom to be an ISP as well as the sole bandwidth supplier is beyond me.

Very true and I agree with that 100%

Erm, perhaps the competition commision is funded by Telkom, or bribed? Or threatened? Maybe, just maybe, we are living in a corrupt country. Oh my word!!!
