Hi

I am looking for someone that is currently on Telkom elite plus uncapped or elite uncapped 40/20meg vdsl package. Do anyone know what is there fair usage policy?

Currently with Afrihost and having troubles. Noticed my connection drops from time to time to 10 megs and sometimes 5 megs. I think its because of heavy usage(650gigs on 20meg package :o). I was told by call center they are busy rewriting software on there connections which might be limiting speeds. Tested with a capped WA account and full speed so no line problems with telkom. I don't mind paying 3500-4000 just not looking for any throttling on my 20meg vdsl.

Why don't you just get capped account?
You can get 2 different capped accounts(Redundancy) and top up as see fit. That way you pay as you use.
You can get 1.5TB for R3000 and its unshapped.

**On Ti, Night Surfer hours are key to not becoming throttled**

If you don't find anything suitable then i suggest what Dark Agent has suggested :p.

WRT the Ti uncapped accounts you mentioned, they are subject to the same policies as all their accounts [besides capped having a more premium feel :)] and if you want to do bulk downloads then you will have to schedule them between 00:00 - 07:00 Mon-Sun. You can download outside those hours however there is a usage bar that shows how far you are away from becoming throttled [green>orange>red] due to excessive usage outside those hours mentioned. As to how slow the speed will go, i cannot say because i don't know however it won't be unusable and that i can be sure of.

Rough estimates if you use Night Surfer time to download, you can easily get :

1470GB** [7GB/h [about 2MB/s +-] * 7hrs * 30days] per month and no throttling if outside those hours usage is not high.
**This is just an estimation :)

Let us know with what you decide :D.

If your day usage is kept down to a minimum (what you will be doing anyway to keep out of the throttled bands) you can get away with the do Elite Plus bundle. Its a lot cheaper and you get 100gigs to play with during metered times. Then from midnight to 7 you get all you can eat. On 40meg, its a lot!

I do the above, along with a VOX free 1gig account with the R59 uncapped bolt-on. This gives me coverage between 6pm and midnight for browsing and streaming, and best of all covers the entire weekend so I dont have to worry about what im consuming. The VOX account is rate limited at 10meg but its more than enough for general use, and I just manage my traffic on the Mikrotik and route my first class citizen devices that dont consume lots of data over the 40meg 100gig connection.

Just my recipe, and works very well at the moment. Loving 40meg :)

Which isp? Afrihost has nice capped deals but i see from reading other posts the capped deals are having the same issues.

Since you are already with Afrihost, why not just change to the capped package to test it - it won't cost you anything to change and will be much easier than changing ISP's if it works out.

If it doesn't work out, then think of other ISP's - you have until the 25th to cancel.

Just my suggestion

I use both Afrihost and webafrica, I just make a pppoe connection when needed. There both have issues at randoms but webafrica for me had better experience then Afrihost. I just upgrade when required and downgrade before month end. Primary/Default router Account is Telkom Softcapped, I use night surf but on 20mbps somethings just don't get full speed(8-12mbps, good nights goes 18-19 mbps). This month I did 168GB(180GB package for R199) with Webafrica and over 230GB on Telkom Nightsurf. I still have 80+GB remaining(From 100 GB package) on Afrihost. Being getting less then 7mbps on the capped account and speedtest seems good.
