Telkom ending landline services

I heard in the overberg area residents believe Telkom is ending landline services. Reckon wants people to migrate to a digital system, I can't get anyone to agree if it is wireless, mobile, digital, ads or anything else. Just that someone bought a phone from Telkom as they don't want lines on poles anymore. Anyone heard this truth or rumour.
Overberg is like betty bay area....

Probably true generally if there's not enough DSL users Telkom will migrate users to wireless services, in my area there are several roads which have had the cables removed and people migrated to their fixed line alike service which is a total rip-off IMO, though they did not touch the lines on roads which have DSL subscribers. This could in my area be the case that their 4G coverage is spotty at best

Telkom has stopped repairing our fixed lines about 17 years ago. It was supposed to be a civilised area, north of Johannesburg, but our neighbourhood in Diepsloot grown up somehow and started mining coper. Since then, no coper lines, wireless or FTTH and a poor cellular service.

This is apparently only related to telephone service? Adsl is on the same line as the telephone, I find it hard to believe they would end a service with no notifications to customer base.
