Telkom f**ks us again

i don't understand how that is uncapped

as far as i understood, uncapped means no limit on bandwidth
Its uncapped because ICASA neglected to define what uncapped might be. ;)

Am I the only one who sees the good side of this?
Before mercurial pointed out the link that says we get the 10/20/30/40GB free local, we thought that we would have to pay for ANY local usage that we use after the cap (after the trial).

Sure, what we all wanted was free unlimited local, but what we expected was pay as you go. Instead we get 10/20/30/40GB Free. I think thats a bonus!

Dont think its much of a bonus when i need to explain to the family why I had to rape the cap to get the local, im never going to get to use this as theyre gonna crap themselves if they get capped, already bitching at me for just just going over 2gig.

It's not very useful seeing as you have to get through the cap first, and the price of these accounts doesn't make it viable to use only for the local.

But it is better than I expected too, knowing how Telkom was planning to implement this. Only a promotion atm though, their SAIX local only price is an absoloute joke.. really. It should be cheaper than, or at least equal too, the current R17 retail price for local.

It means I get 3 extra gigs of SAIX international plus 10 extra gigs of SAIX local for R61 less than the R300 I was forking out for a 20Gb SAIX local account.

It's a win.

Pricing is slightly more than an IS 3/27 account. I think TI could win over a lot of business with this. I'm sure they've costed this and figured that they are still making a killing while pulling the cherry out of IS's pie. There's no guarantees, but if successful the promotion could become permanent.

it's only free for now. they gonna charge for it pretty soon.

so you automatically get billed on the local bandwidth you use after your initial cap? at R25 per gig?
If thats true, Im cancelling my telkom accounts just due to the risk they get into the wrong hands.

no, after u use ur 3gb cap, u get 30gb local, after that u get charged R25 per gig.

imagine you go on holiday for 2 weeks and when you get back you realize that your account has been hacked and they downloaded like 100 gigs?

Ill have to file for bankruptcy!

You have to give Telkom credit they know just how to confuse ICASA...

Now this will be fine for a few more months than Icasa will catch on and Telkom will just change something else. Slowly getting to there... piece by piece.

when are they planning to start the charging after 30 gigs of free local?

My guess is as of December. Or if the regulations are worth their salt, once Telkom has communicated the change to your SLA propertly.

yeah, but my point is this - they are not obiding by ICASA. they are supposed to be offering us uncapped local bandwidth. the scumbags.

The regulations does NOT state that uncapped Local must be FREE. It states it must not count towards the usage cap, which Telkom has done.

Go rant at ICASA rather...

read properly. no one is talking about free internet. we are talking about uncapped internet. big difference,.

It is uncapped... You can use as much local as you want, again... No one said it should be free...

as much as you want? have you not read anything on this thread? it stops at 30 gigs dude. that's not uncapped. after that, they charge.

Where does it say that it stops??? You get 30GB Local free, they back charge you for local bandwidth more than 30GB. No one is 'cutting the service' once you hit 30GB?

Aah well, neways... Bottom of the line, go hump ICASA for not setting clear policies... Telkom is complying with the regulations as far as I can see...
