i agree, apparently telkom has a different understanding of uncapped than the rest of the planet.

if ur on the 2gb package - u get 20gb local, 3gb package - u get 30gb local, 4gb package - 40gb local. after that's up, they will charge u R25 per gig u download. and after this "promotion", they will charge you for the 20/30/40gb local as well.
all this is pretty useless cos u still need to use up your international bandwidth before making use of the 20/30/40gb local. if u still have ur international bandwidth, and u download local, it accumulates to your international bandwidth. they are so skelm honestly.
TI has not categorically stated that you will be charged for local usage over the "promotion" amounts - only that they reserve the right to do so. I suspect that they will only start charging users who consistently or substantially exceed the limits set (i.e. their definition of "abusing" the network). I also think that they will communicate directly to all their users before starting this charging.
Can anyone confirm if they have received direct notification from TI of the proposed changes or is it all based on the website info?

ur confusing 2 concepts here. the promotion is for the free 30gb they are giving us. they will charge us for this after the promotion, you can bet on it.
What 2 concepts? The statement on the website is that they "reserve the right" to charge - not that they will charge. I however do think that if a large number of users start exceeding the "promotion" amounts they will be forced to charge.

lol i'm talking about that - "reserve the right to charge" - they are talking about charging once the cap is exceeded(R25 per gig). that charge is seperate from the amount they will charge us for the 30gb local. at the moment, the 30gb is free(promotion), but in future they will charge for this as it says so on their site. so in perfect telkom conditions, they will charge u x amount for the 30gb local and if u exceed that, they will charge u an additional fee at R25 for every extra gig u download.

lets forget about the payment of the 30gb local which we will eventually pay for. the payment i'm talking about is when we exceed the 30gb, then they charge us R25 per gig(promotion or not). "promotion" in this sense means "free 30gb for now".
it says so on their site.
i find it extremely hard to believe that they will not charge us extra in the future for exceeding, if they are already charging us extra. that's just my view.

As your quote clearly shows they are "reserving the right to charge" - not saying they will definitely charge in respect of the usage over the current promotion caps. However only time will tell so let us wait and see.
In any case the local access does not suit me as I generally require full access and currently as long as their relaxed capping on international continues they are still currently the most cost effective provider.

you're right, they don't specifically say they will charge us, but i think we all know that they will. i mean it's Telkom, how can they not rip us off
Telkom stated earlier on in the month that they were in the test phase and as such no billing would be incurred for usage of the local component after reaching your cap. One would assume that this would last for the whole month of November.
Clearly by putting that info on their website already they are gearing up for dissemination if the information to be in place and practise by December. The question is of course whether anywhere in the SLA it states that anything posted on the Telkom website is agreement by you that it has been transmitted to you. They might well have slipped that in and if we were living in a country where consumer rights are respected we could be confident it would fall flat on its arse. However we live in SA so unless you are prepared to fight the beast we might have to take it as having been communicated to us.
savage – then by definition all services in South Africa can be considered uncapped as you can use the internet to your hearts content provided you have the money to fund unlimited continuous top-ups.

Arg, never mind. Its 1 gig - 10 gig local, 2 gig, 20 gig local, 3 gig, 30 gig local etc...thats not actually TOO BAD. If the accounts become like this by default, if its 1 gig and then PAY FOR ALL LOCAL USAGE after thats gone then its bollocks... They probably just gonna match up with what IS does and that will be that.

I am not aware of any such provisions in telkoms SLA and I think you would most likely win any argument with TI if you were charged additional for local usage witout prior direct notification. That is only my opinion and I might be proven wrong.
As regards the definition of "uncapped" ASA's recent finding makes interesting reading:

They did not find it acceptable to refer to a package as uncapped even though the user had the option to buy additional gigs to remain connected.

That’s how I understand it as well and hope that is how it is - they need to "change the contracts" first before they are allowed to charge us at all for local usage. They cannot do this in the middle of a month So I assume that local usage (up and above your 30GB) should be totally FREE till the end of the month.
But that's me, not Telkom.
