Telkom fibre prices

I finally got a call today from Telkom, and while going through the different options, I asked whether the 50GB softcap had unlimited nightsurfer, he said no.

Then I asked how much is just the line, he said that's not possible, but I should try a Telkom shop if I didn't want to sign a contract.

I asked them to retract my order, no nightsurfer was a deal breaker.
 
Uhhh, the person i spoke to claimed it came with night surfer..

All of the consultants that I have spoken to have confirmed the unlimited night surfer although it wouldn't exactly be headline news for Telkom to change their policy overnight. It will be interesting to hear what TelkomZA has to say.
 
Still cannot get ahold of anyone ffs, TelkomZA helping out a bit but even he's having trouble with these fools
 
According to TelkomZA;
Prices include VAT
It's asymmetrical
Does not include phone line (phone line is still on copper and costs extra)


No word on the softcap data yet
 
Signing that 2 year contract doesn't seem as nice now... Actually dont want to give Telkom money so they realize their monopoly is falling and they can't shark us anymore..

I spoke to them again just now too and the new new story from the consultants confirms what is written above - that night surfer cannot be used for downloads, only surfing so basically its a gimmick. Once your soft cap gets hit (50gb on a 20meg line) your line speed will get throttled to "less than 1meg". So good luck to them selling 50gb for R999.

So as far as I'm concerned the fibre line that cost them so much to have outside my house can hang in the wind completely undisturbed!

If anyone else hears anything about a sensible company bringing FTTH in the Durban area (I'm in Upper Highway) please let us all know. Perhaps Telkom will eventually be forced to open up their white elephant to other ISP's.

telkom nerd said you can use any ADSL data account for Telkom Fibre as it connects to the same "remote server"

and that "new products and services will be released soon from Telkom"

hoping this means I can get a standalone Fibre line, get my data from an ISP of my choice and retire my landline
 
Thank you Woodlands - that is very interesting.

I actually spoke to a couple of ISP's yesterday including Afrihost and neither of them knew about the fibre lines in our area - they still quoted copper speeds (4meg in our case) but I'll pursue it further now that it seems that they may be able to connect through the fibre lines. I'll keep you posted if I make any progress.

Out of interest about 10 days ago Telkom told me to call back on the 23rd as the "new products and services" would be launched then - including routing landline calls through the fibre lines to eliminate the separate copper line altogether. Sure enough I called them yesterday and there is still nothing new and according to the consultant it is currently not possible for Telkom to use the fibre for voice calls.
 
They cannot differentiate surfing from downloads. Nightsurfer is nightsurfer.

We have never taken Telkom consultants as people that know what they talk about, why start now.
