Wow, that is impressive pricing. The fact that line speed is only halved once hitting the soft cap is fantastic. Oh and it's 20 or 40Mbps up.

20/20 line with a 50gb soft cap - R849.

40/40 line with 100gb soft cap - R949.

Both lines have night surfer which is free data between 12 and 6am, and once the soft cap is reached the line speed halves. It is on a 24 month contract with free installation.

An update from Telkom (different consultant): My 4meg ADSL will be upgraded to 40meg within 7 days and as part of the contract they will provide a free router and installation.

This consultant tells me that once the soft cap is hit the line speed will drop considerably - perhaps down to 10-15meg not necessarily half speed. Still not bad considering the night surfer bit.

The 100meg lines are not on offer yet and there is no pricing available.

What were the terms of the contract if you don't mind me asking? The Telkom rep I spoke to said he couldn't disclose anything publicly until next week

To be honest I didn't enquire much further than to confirm that the line speed can be upgraded or downgraded during the course of the contract. We are already with Telkom so I didn't go much further than to upgrade the line speed and accept that we will be with Telkom for the next 2 years.

I did however speak to 3 different consultants today and all were able to help with the upgrade of the line, even if their information did vary slightly, so it seems strange that they won't tell you anything until next week.

My exchange has had intermittent downtimes the past few months so I'm hoping Telkom are busy preparing a nice surprise. It would be a nice upgrade from my current 4Mbps max. *continues dreaming*

Telkom always upgrades those in contracts though for free. So not really a worry.
