Telkom finds itself in deep trouble

I hope they shut down. They honestly deserve to go under. They are pathetic. I've been trying to port my number from post paid to prepaid for the past 2 months. They are full of crap. Previously it took me 3 years to cancel my ADSL.
 
I sign up for Cell C fixed LTE...they go down the crapper
I then sign up for Telkom fixed LTE as an alternative...they are going down the crapper
Where do I sign up for ANC membership?
 
Make me CEO. Day 1, I would nuke every call centre telkom has. Farm it all out to India. 75% of your problems solved right there. You can thank me later shareholders.

Looking at the financial results, I really don't see the issue? They're making up for fixed revenue loss via mobile sector (a 58% revenue jump is quite a bit), where they're quite competitive. Yes, they made less profit, but they increased market share, reduced operating expenses, etc.

What is this doom and gloom nonsense from @mybb? Increasing revenue to make up for margins is basically a requirement if you're entering the market and the economy is also in a slump.
That said, they seriously need to sort out their billing, it's a pain.

This article also seems to contradict what I see in the Telkom store at Bayside, I constantly see the place packed with people taking up new phone contracts, Telkom definitely bet well going for mobile imho. It just seems people don't understand that the monopolistic margins of the last two decades won't exist anymore.
 
Our business has a static IP address on an ADSL line. When the Telkom rep calls they don't even know what a static IP address is and just put down the phone. Can someone advise where to get a static IP address when switching to Fiber. (i.e. non Telkom Fiber)

You need to chat with the ISP, but I think pretty much all fiber ISP support this on FTTB products.
 
Services and Facilities leasing.. Telkom owns lots of stuff that others would kill to piggyback on.

Same for Eskom. They have a massive national fiber network. Lease the bugger out.

sit back, basic manage, and reap the rewards.
 
To be fair they wouldn’t be losing fixed line customers if the scourge that roams this country stealing infrastructure was eliminated!

I have mobile and fixed line offerings from them and I am more than happy. One of the lucky few I guess.
 
Telkom has been in the thick of things for done time now... All the negativity is certainly justified. But I have to defend Telkom this time from my own personal experience with Telkom.

I had one or two disputes with my ADSL line, where Telkom impressed with good turnaround time and refunds on my account. To add : I was personally called by Telkom and was offered a month to month basis for a 10Meg Fibre connection, free installation and modem. This after I made it clear that there are other players in the market with more attractive offers. So thumbs up to Telkom for that initiative. I for one will give Telkom the benefit of the doubt. They realize they need to SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT. The competition for fiber customers is fierce and very competitive. Telkom is now put the test. I will remain with Telkom up until they don't keep to their quality and service, which leaves me no alternative than to seek a better service provider.

Cancelled my internet with helkom and signed up with mweb where my speed is actually faster even though it is still on helkoms phone line. Once they rip out those lines there is no chance I will sign up for another helkom product.

Telkom is slowly putting in fibre to replace its copper lines but is very expensive to do. Telkom uses Gpon splitter systems to use less fibre rather than a single individual fibre indipendantly connected straight to the server for a compatible 1gbps line which is not possible on a gpon splitter system max is approx 200mbps to a single client which is dissapointing as well splitter systems split a single fibre 1gbps line into up to 64 splitts off it. Most other companies eg : vumatel connect each home with two 1gbps compatible fibre lines to each house and also multi dweling units which is outstanding and are extremely quick with maintainence any issue is fixed in a max of 24 hours average from a single induvidual to a major fault. Inside one of Vumatel manholes is a fully populated future proof sytem from ground level to just under 1 meter of a fibre highway fully populated. Most other fibre companies do not have ariel fibre at all either..
 
I worry that the national grid that Telkom inherited, and that service providers are forced to procure from Telkom / OpenServe will fall apart - unless that infrastructure is placed in safer hands ( NOT govt-controlled )
If the national grid falls apart a lot of us would be screwed . . . eish! socialism sucks
