Telkom fixed-line numbers plummet

So far no one has addressed the report and the information it contains. Everyone is just using this thread to bitch and moan ....

Fixed line is probably plummeting in most countries

UK telecoms companies are about to increase their fixed-line phone charges. Ten years ago this would have led to the technological equivalent of riots in the streets. It would have been front page news. But today? Nope. Hardly a squeak.

The meteoric fall of the fixed-line telephone is one of the 21st Century’s great examples of the way technology can advance so quickly that it kills the old technology without us even noticing. Let’s face it, when was the last time you even thought about making a real phone call from a telephone fixed to a cable in the wall of your house?

The latest figures from UK telecoms regulator Ofcom are startling. In the year to June 2014 we spent three billion fewer minutes on landline calls, a reduction of 12.7 per cent. That means operators lost out on ÂŁ85m of revenue compared with the previous year. The situation has got so bad for landlines that according to research by RootMetrics, 95 per cent of us would not struggle without a fixed landline telephone.

Had a confirmed installation today. They didn't pitch or call. Useless company.

My Fibre order still says Checking stock in our warehouse from 1 June, not sure what it means, hopefully they install it soon as it will help with my uploads, 512 is slow.

Changed 4mb adsl for a 10mb WISP. Got rid of the landline - R235 rent pays for a lot of cellular airtime - not that I need it, since facetime and whatsapp calls (and netflix) are covered by the WISP. Tata telkom, hello freedom!

Who is the WISP and is there a cap? Thinking about doing the same as you...

For reasons unknown, the voice line causes havoc with internet. Disconnected the voice line months back. Honestly we don't use it anymore.

The voice and adsl runs over the same line.

You either had a bad pots filter, phone instrument, indoor wiring or your line was just borderline.

I got my Telkom Bill yesterday for the first time since I got my adsl this year.

They added weekender R180 to my account. WTF. I don't even have a handset. So there is R320 for weekender (1.5 months).

I wish we don't have to use ADSL from Telkom... When fibre is available in my area... Cheers Telkom
