Telkom fixed line subscriber bleed unabated

could you guys put together an infographic set:
subscriber numbers and DSL subscribers over time
pie charts of the make up of home subscribers - how many home lines are there that do not have a DSL service on the line?

and so on

People aren't seeing the need for Fixed Lines, because ADSL pricing is still expensive as you are essentially paying for the line twice, if they just got rid of line rental it wouldn't be so bad.
Oh it also doesn't help that it took me so long to get a line, people eventually just give up, I finally got my line after living in the place for four years.

Perversely I don't mind this.

Switch off all non-profitable exchanges, sell them off and start running Telkom as if it is your own business and not a charity or to score political points for your biggest shareholder.

I guess it depends on the user - its cheaper to get 10GB of mobile data than to rent an ADSL Line, rent a voice line, and pay for the data on that.

which is why the % of lines with a DSL service growing is far more important

it is perverse to measure the success of a company on the number of widgets it is selling at below cost

Yeah. Folks have options now. Cheaper mobile data being one of them.

The decline in voice lines shouldn't be looked at in such an isolated way. It's should be analysed against Telkom mobile voice user base growth... that will paint a more balanced picture!

Except for data I don't see the need at all.The price is not attractive enough

This is mad, because its the opposite in the UK, and I suspect EU. Mobile is data is expensive compared to broadband. ÂŁ10 for 3GB over 4G network, compared to ÂŁ2.5 to ÂŁ4 for unlimited broadband ranging from download speeds of 17mb, a bit faster than 4G.

That makes mobile data almost 4 times more expensive ins some cases than broadband.

I don't think anyone sells an unlimited mobile data package in the UK. Or it might be cheaper to pay off a Ferarri :)

It is cheaper to have a mobile service for both voice and data, provided your demands are basic: 60-minutes voice, sub 2GB per month. Telkom is not playing in this price bracket by a long shot.

Other reasons could also be that Telkom refuses to replace stolen cable in certain areas given the theft rate.

Telkom deserves to loose customers, and then, when theres not enough customers leftover to sustain the business anymore, those useless SOBs can loose their jobs ... no sympathies from here anymore... i am one of the many gatvol customers customers giving up on the k#k service and ass dragging from Telkom. if Telkom doesnt give a crap about service, neither should we care about Telkom
I would really not mind staying on ADSL even though there are other options nowadays, but hell, sane peope can take only so much!
i am now ready to pay more for a different type of connection, but at least expect to see better quality connection that works every time when i need it.
Telkom doesnt refund for loss of connection during the weeks that the line is dead or useless every time, so paying more for a faster, better connection, where issues get resolved quicker will be worth it.

That's if your data demands are basic.

If Telkom were clever they could remove the voice line component from the adsl service and provide you with an incentivised mobile bundle instead.

If Telkom were serious about service, and keeping customers, they would be offering 3G/HSPA/LTE mobile connection while they drag their asses to fix their ADSL lines. Or at least refund you for your internet costs incurred while its off... an incentive to get their **** in order as quick as possible.
Alas, ... no.
