Hi All,

I am hoping to find some kind of assistance in my effort to solve my connectivity issue, I would appreciate any advice and TIA.

I have a Huawei B593 router and have been using the Cell C sim card supplied by Afrihost for the past 12 months without any issues.
Recently Afrihost advised customers that the Cell C service has come to an end and that we can either move to the Pure MTN LTE or Telkom Fixed LTE depending on area coverage.
I followed the instructions via the Afrihost Client Zone and was informed that the Telkom Fixed LTE is suitable for my area and that they would send through a Telkom LTE sim card via courier within a few days.
I received the sim card and was instructed to insert such into the router on the last day of the month (February) and allow up to 48hrs for the connection.
48hrs later after inserting the new sim card into the router the connection light indicator on the router remained a steady red, indicating no connection.
I contacted Afrihost support and was told that the sim card was not authenticated and the matter was escalated to Telkom. Later that afternoon I was informed that Telkom has resolved the issue and that I should reset the router and was given the APN etc to connect. All that was done and sadly still no connection.
Its now been a week without connectivity after several support emails, screen shots etc and a person calling to try to assist, to 1 actually wanting 3 screen shots of a speed test in-order to escalate the issue to Telkom. I have asked how can I perform a speed test without an internet connection and I am still awaiting an answer.
In order to see that the sim card works, I inserted the sim card into my cell phone and it does work, it even connects to the internet, I passed on this info to the Afrihost support.
I asked about the my router and was told its a CAT 4 and fully supported by Telkom LTE.
I am at my wits end now!
I have checked on the client zone to follow up on all my threads for the past week only to see that they no longer there, the threads have disappeared.

Has anyone experienced this issue with the same router and Telkom Fixed LTE?

The Huawei B593 although not the best router to have it does indeed support Telkom network and you should not be experiencing issues.

Here are a couple of things you NEED to check and confirm from your side.

You need to log into the router. To do that you need to use the ip address in a browser like firefox or chrome and then login using the username and password that is written on the bottom of the router.

There you will need to look for 2 options. The router needs to be set to Network Mode. Auto or 4G Only mode.

The other settings that you need to look for is Network Profile or APN. That need to be set to "internet" you can name it anything but the APN needs to be either internet or unrestricted.

Last setting to check and confirm is Network Search mode. It should ALWAYS be on Automatic. If not and set to Manual it would require you to manually search the Telkom network and that is not something you want to always do so leave or set that to Automatic.

Hi Cavedog,

Thank you for taking the time to respond and be of assistance.

I have tried your suggestion, in fact that's the only response the support people from Afrihost have been emailing to me, tried that on numerous occasions and there is no signal to make a connection.
I have attached a few screen shots.

Thank you for the time cavedog, much appreciated indeed.

Okay let me suggest a few more settings.

Take the simcard out of the router. Put it in a phone then dial this.

*180# then reply # then there is an option for Manage Telkom -R. Reply to select that option. Then in that menu make sure the setting is set to You have Opted NOT to use Telkom -R.

Return the simcard to the router. Force 3G Only mode. Then force it back to 4G only mode.

Yes I did, all modes, 3G, 2G, Auto - does not make any connection at all.

The last suggestion I can make is to reset the router by long pressing the small reset switch.

I find it strange that it's not working in the router because Telkom has band 1 and band 3 LTE the exact same bands Cellc uses for their network.

Thank you for all your effort. I have tried that as well, several times, to holding that tiny reset button down for over 2 minutes or more in all my frustration.
Never the less I thank you for every suggestion made.

Maybe look at getting a second hand Huawei B315 or B618. It will serve your future needs much better.
