HI Guys

What is the current best router available on the Telkom Fixed LTE network?
I'm still running a HUAWEI-B593-872E router and the last few months I've noticed that whenever it rains, the router gets the red circle light (I'm not sure what that means other than I lose connection until the rain dies down).
I do have a Poynting external antenna.

I've also noticed that the wifi signal strength has lost a lot of its range. The position has not changed in over 2 years.
I can no longer get signal in my bedroom (the furthest room in the house from the router), where it was perfectly fine a few weeks ago.

I spoke to the tech at the Telkom store who said it is probably the router that is faulty and I should look at getting a replacement.

Can anyone recommend the best available replacement and then the best value for money replacement, that would fix my problems mentioned above?

Excuse my ignorance on most things wifi.

TIA.

First get a router you can test with then decide if it is the router ...

Thanks. I've asked around but so far no one I know has a different lte router to test.
It's a good idea so will keep asking around.

Do you think it's worth getting a WiFi extender 1st and hopefully that will sort out the range issue?
Although I'm sure that won't help the weather problem.

Just upgrade the router to a B525 and all your problems will be sorted.

I see on Takealot there is a B535 and no B525's (no stock).
What is the difference? Is the B535 better?
If you going to use it for Telkom i see it doesnt have the B40 band so then its a no

Excuse my ignorance but what is the B40 band? Why would the router be sold by Telkom if it doesnt work?

B525 would definitely be a good upgrade from the old B593. If you can get one significantly cheaper the ZTE MF286 is also a pretty solid choice.

Are you sure this statement is true?
B40 - 2300 to 2400 MHz
B3 around 1800 MHz
So I have been seeing more and more towers getting refarmed 2100MHz frequency for LTE and have posted it before but just thought that a new thread with updated info would be nice for people searching.

Telkom now has LTE on:
Band 1 (2100MHz)
Band 3 (1800MHz)
Band 40 (2300MHz)

Telkom runs LTE-A (4G+) on 2 setups now.

Band 40 + Band 40 (40MHz spectrum)
Band 1 + Band 3 (15MHz spectrum)

In cases where Telkom roams on Vodacom there might be a mix of bands and spectrum. Band 8 might come into play once the roaming with Vodacom is fully implemented. Vodacom refarms up to 15MHz spectrum in Band 1 so that can also be decent once that comes into play.

Now let's talk routers. Most LTE-A (4G+) routers can do B1+B3 LTE-A (4G+) so those routers will now work on Telkom. For B40+B40 LTE-A which would usually be the fastest purely based on device support and obviously the larger amount of spectrum you would need a Telkom supplied B525 or B618.

The question was : "what is the B40 band?"
And your answer:"That band aggregates telkoms 1800 and 2300".

Please explain again.

Add band 20 to the list. B1+b20 or B3+B20
