I have just got Telkom FTTH.

They provided a Zyxel router. I was given the free dnyamic DNS XXXX.mydns.telkomsa.net.

When I going into the router admin and try enable dynamic DNS, the drop down list of Dynamic DNS providers are

dyndns
zonedit
noip.com
myzyxel

but nothing for mydns.telkomsa.net.

does anyone know how I enable Dynamic DNS with Telkom's free DDNS offering?

From what I understand it updates for you, no need to enable the client

The dyndns is done upstream from you. Nothing for you to setup on your end :)

Try ping yourself and see if it works

The ping doesnt work, I get " request timeout".

Spent 30 minutes on the line to 10210 call centre yesterday - operator had no clue whatsoever:-( I was then refered to log a call with Telkom Idirect - lets see what happens.

If the dyndns is done upstream, does it then enable the client for me or should it remain disabled on router management client?

I setup a no-ip dns 30 day free trial and it works. I want to avoid paying a DNS service if I can help it.

If it resolves then it doesnt matter that it times out -that's just your router set not to reply to ping requests on the WAN.

The fact you are getting timeouts and not a resolve error probably means it is working fine already

I really appreciate your help on this.

If it is working fine - then how come I cant connect to my router admin page?

Basically - When I use no-ip dns then connecting to XXXX.ddns.net from another machine on the internet I get to the router admin tool (ie 10.0.2)no issue. I works like I would expect it to.

When I use XXX.mydns.telkomsa.net from another machine on internet, I cant connect to the router admin (ie 10.0.2)

I am sorry if this is a dof question...

You're mixing things up. If you want to connect to your LAN from outside you need to use the WAN address

I will double check when I get home - I think that is what I did but I may have started confusing things.

Thanks.

So this is the email response I get from iDirect@Telkom

"Kindly be advised that you will not be able to have DNS beacuse you have a fibre installed in your house so in order for you to use DNS you need adsl line thank you."

if I do nslookups for both XXXX.dns.net (No-IP) and XXXXX.mydns.telkomsa.net they both resolve to the correct WAN Address.

Thanks for all your help!

Anybody had issues with Telkom Dynamic DNS on RttH network?

I can remotely connect from various other networks, but if I use my RttH LTE modem and browse to xxxx.mydns.telkomsa.net no luck, it times out?
