so dam jealous wonder when they are going to release it to the rest of south africa. I am still waiting for a 20MB connection and doesnt seem like that is going to happen anytime soon

does not show white telkom box :p

Want to know if its fiber then white telkom box then cat 5 to router?
or is fiber direct to router.

There is no such thing as a router that supports a Fibre connection, Fibre goes into a modem and the modem connects to a router (should you need Wi-Fi)

Why is there modem needed, modem converts analog to digital , fiber is digital , no need for modem then right?

Pretty sure neotel goes direct into cisco router Which has 4 ports and wifi , just need to go check at my client when im there again.

Cable Internet requires a cable modem on the user's end and a cable modem termination system at the cable operator's facility. These two systems are connected using coaxial cable — the same stuff you use to get cable TV. (From the internet)

Needs to convert signal from the coxial cable to something the pc understands , through coaxial cable can be used digital or analog from what i understand.

I know places overseas , you have box that fiber cables comes in your home then from box there is cat 5 which goes in your wan port of the router , so no modem need in that case.

@David101: Is the fibre being strung along telephone poles or using existing underground conduits? Any pics of the installation would be greatly appreciated!
Yotch, all line are underground as per the existing copper. In some aras where Telkom is overhead, they will also do the fibre overhead. Will post pics asap

Already running into problems....Suddenly this morning I cannot get 1Mb/s. Wish Telkom also provided a dedicated trial contact nr but that's probably too much to expect

Turns out OP lives down my road. Literally. 400 meters from my house.

PM'd Telkom to ask about my eligibility.

Strange, I thought there was a dedicated helpdesk...

Do you have any contact details of the folks that offered you the trial?

Nope seems not. The techie yesterday told me to call 10210 if any problems. Think the trial people only did the initial calling and getting the forms signed. Will check my forms at work tomorrow again

If anyone has some information about applying for this trial or someone I can speak to regarding it, please either PM me or post it here.

Just spoke to my parents.
Apparently the entire neighbourhood received calls regarding this trial....
