Telkom hit by sabotage

I don't think a political party is responsible for a union wanting 11% salary increase for its members.

This happens all the time.
 
They should have circular backup data path links like Eskom had in the past for their power lines (it became redundant once ANC came to power, BTW).

In the core network everything runs on top of a dual SDH ring architecture. Failures between sdh nodes are isolated and the traffic 'folds back' on the affected ring in both directions. That's one ring while you have two via diverse cable routes. There are also 'spokes' in the network which are more vulnerable

Spoke to someone today regarding this... there was more than one such incident in the last few days and it is VERY coincidental that CWU starting striking at the same time. Both incidents that I know of, shows signs of either insider info or it was carried out by an insider. If a single cable was cut once it could be bad luck. But for the same route's CABLES to be cut in several different places is not bad luck but a deliberate act of sabotage.

Correct, to isolate the network you would have to sever the path to it on more than one main fibre optic route, the SDH core network has plenty of redundancy on both a cable & equipment level so malice is the most likely cause here.

They need to catch these fsckers, prosecute them & fire them so they can retire for the next few years inside a jail cell.

They have more than enough up their sleeve to absorb what ever people want to throw at them.

at the same time they threatened to cripple Telkom, Telkom gets crippled at important locations, someone(a worker) that knows their infrastructure and where to cripple Telkom at those important points.
