Has anyone been able to get iMessenger activated on their Telkom sim?

I have ported to Telkom, and just can't get things activated. Calling customer care is pretty much useless

You don't need to if you're on contract. Just make sure international sms are active on your account.

That too is active and has been 4 months now. That how long I've had my iPhone so really pulling the short straw here it seems
