Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Got this in an email from Telkom Internet:

"Beyond its innovation in offering the SoftCap feature to all customers, Telkom Internet will be extending it’s Free Night Surfer data by an hour from 1 September, giving you free data from 12am to 7am. Scheduling all your upgrades, bulk emails, file backups and downloads during these times will save you data and money. This is available for both business and home users."

I take it you didn't get it?

Also received it...

Here's my September usage to date.... could be more but I only download what I want to watch, not the whole interwebz.

Tracker has not even moved yet!

I have yet to see an official notice from Telkom saying that downloads overnight don't contribute to your ration.

Despite scheduling nearly all major activity to post-midnight, I was capped when the usage bar was green, so even that is not an indicator. When I queried this they used my download figure as the reason, so clearly there are other factors at play.

There is a press release saying games are not encouraged, then another saying they are prioritised. Whom to believe?

I believe this is the only ISP that has cut torrents in this way.

What we need is more official clarity, not rumours. We didn't even get a letter.

We need consistency. Everything was fine until some bright spark implemeted this draconian policy. Lots of people find it unfair. Must I now find a new ISP every time they do a u-turn for uncapped?

Ranger has said it on many an occasion, I'm too lazy to do a search but it's common knowledge in this thread.
If you got capped while in the green then your the first Ti user to have had this happen that I know of. I highly doubt you were capped while in the green. If by now you haven't realised that the Telkom support desk know jack then I think it's time someone told you. Point in case, I log a call for the issue regarding slow browsing (a result of the IPC issue in KZN) and straight up asked the guy if and when will it be fixed. The agent told me there's nothing wrong with the KZN IPC. How he determined that in 2 seconds is beyond me. there's lots of thumb sucking going on in that support desk. I suspect you have issues other than your account. Have you tested for congestion?

Ranger clarified that the info in that article was littered with irregularities and mis-truths. I wouldn't believe what I read there as further articles contradicted the first article.

It's not just Telkom that cuts torrents, what about Afirhost? Most Afrihost clients CP shows p2p @ 6.5% - as Ranger pointed out he was 50kB/s which equates to +-10% that's 3.5% better than Afrihost. I'm not saying that's right but that's how it is.
If you not happy just give notice and move on to another ISP but I suspect you going to find a problem with all of them as none will cater to your needs 100%.

EDIT: I didn't see the post above have covered the free data story :p

You're assuming Telkom customers come onto this forum. I was told by a support person to come here. Looks like they are using external social media as customer support, which is crazy!

Ranger is on 10Meg speed, so 50kb/s is a raindrop.

Telkom belongs to all of us, so we need to lobby them to change their policy. You forget also that they have been flagging this as a line fault for months until now when they suddenly point to another excuse.

I suggest TI gets its own contact center if communication is poor via Telkom proper.

Are you using your @telkomsa.net email address?
Nope. I have another e-mail on their file. Best practise is not to use ISP e-mail for this very reason - that they go into decline or become anal.

My Gmail checks my @telkomsa.net mailbox and brings it to me. I only have the telkom address to get telkom notices.

Haha i doubt that

Are you a shareholder? Because as a customer you own zilch.

Do you receive any emails from TelkomInternet at all (not Telkom)?

Anal? Them or you?
You're always pretty rude and defensive of Telkom. How do I block?

You've been rabbiting on about TI for nearly a month and I've yet to see a post where you have proved another ISP account is working 100% on your line or acted on any of the advice that has been given - why is this?

He is not being defensive of Telkom in the slightest, he is trying to explain a basic concept of reality..

Unless YOU own shares, you have no ownership over Telkom.

I registered an external e-mail in 2010. I've just checked now and it is still active, yet no notices to it. Perhaps this is another fault.

Ranger is on 4MB, he's said that a few pages ago.

We only going round and round in circles here much like your thread on disclosing your affiliation with an ISP.
This seems like it's headed in that direction. Once again you want your ISP to bend to your rules, if you going to lobby you might find yourself lobbying alone.

Let's look at the facts in hour case - you assume your throttled when your bar is in the green. No one else has had that happen to them. Makes me inclined to think the problem is specific to your line and not Telkom Internet.

The invitation is still open to assist you in trying to isolate your issue. Ranger has extended his hand but you wont take it.

How about you try post some line stats/traceroutes and continuous ping tests to the 2nd hop on your traceroute. Why have you not provided this already? I'm beginning to think you like complaining and don't actually want your problem fixed...

It's a state sponsored company so we have an interest in seeing that it runs efficiently and isn't corrupt or dysfunctional. From the feedback it appears as though they know things are a problem (like the call centre) but are just working around it. Even support says the cell centre is a "headache" for everyone.

Dammit, fark I'm guilty of feeding the troll . You got me Gandi, you got me.
Makes sense now why he/she/it won't post anything but slander
