Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

.

We had a bit of a nightmare migration in Durban. I think everything should be working now, please let me know if there are any issues.

I have a theory here. Never had ANY issues with uncapped EVER before the last three months. It only seems to be royally screwed down here over the last three months since Telkom tried to apply acceptable usage policies and throttle activities to certain power users. Could it be that there is something inherently wrong with this monitoring/policing system here as it seems odd that things like streaming video, gaming and P2P get affected the most?

These are the very things that Telkom warned would be throttled but it seems like the wrong people are getting shafted.

I am just gatvol of the last three months as a premium paying customer to have such crappy internet service and I cant understand how this can go on so long. Also, why should we have to pay for a different level or service than what we receive?

I was thinking the same. Perhaps they don't have a handle on their shaper.
It's a big mess, that's for sure and the reaction seems to be 'oh well, we're working on it'.
I'm also disappointed that we can never speak to the people causing these problems.

Youtube will sit there buffering for 2+ minutes before a video actually starts playing, watching the traffic lights on the router you see them flashing and then it just stops, later starts again. Also should you click anywhere on the progress bar (buffered or unbuffered) the video will no longer play. Oh and when a video eventually starts it's at the lowest resolution.

Something's not kosher.

I get this exact same problem with Youtube.

This weekend has made me realise just how much Youtube media I consume, most of my news is on the platform not to mention entertainment too >.<

I mean there is no direct official phone contact, always many layers between.

There is a direct, unofficial contact, but that doesn't seem to be food enough for you.

You also don't seem to believe the evidence others have presented, nor correlate the fact that you didn't see a FUP redirect when your speeds became slower with the fact that the FUP implememtation may not be what is causing your problems.

So, while I would normally ask someone to provide their details so we can investigate, chances are ypu wouldn't believe any results we present.

/slow clap

@ranger I did not see you yet in the Softcap thread or some of the new articles that people asked but do you think we might get a actual amount of gigs left shown under or in the bar for softcap users?

I have a 50GB account and right now I need to hit a calculator to calculate how much data dit I actually use of my 50GB. Its a bit of a pain. Would be nice to see the figures.

BTW., it did look like we are congesting the internet breakout in Cape Town tonight. Due to limited transmission (new transmission links were ordered some months back and are a few days from completion), we had to reduce internet breakout capacity from the Cape Town site in order to allow IPC to be increased a few days ago.

It's too late now to try and prevent the internet breakout congestion for tonight, hopefully we can push a change early tomorrow to prevent it recurring tomorrow night.

I am not currently subscribed to the thread. I beleive changes to show more detail are in the pipeline.

However, the email "reports" (e.g. daily, weekly) that can be enabled from the tracker show a bit more detail (available, used, remaining in GB), and might do enough of what you want for now.

Ok cool will check it out. If my plan works out I'm hoping to make the 100Gb softcap with my 14Mbps line my only adsl account and being able to at least see what is left or use would be a advantage to manage usage during the day a bit.

Seems a problem in general. Both my Telkom capped and uncapped is struggling to play streaming services. I tried a Verizon account and it's a bit better but still poor quality.

Can you please give us the technical breakdown  as some of us like to read it :) [what you allowed to disclose :/].

I will switch to my account later and see if my WinMTR gives me a smiley response :). Thanks for always staying late to sort all this out, we will recover all those gigs you guys didn't see get used  .

Oh & please subscribe to the thread, only issue is you have to open [from my exp] the site atleast once a day to register you receiving updates if set for new replies as i have. Daily & Weekly updates work normal.
