Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Wonder when we will see static IP's from TI... All the cool kids has it, so TI is bound to get it sooner or later?

I'm under the impression that many problems are a result of line and exchange issues.

Not for me, my exchange is barely loaded. Line is less than 3 years old. Most others complaining about speed issues in the past two months have been directly affected by whatever the **** Telkom has been doing since 6 January.

At least it appears that setting my DNS server to Durban has ironed out one or two issues I was having today. I don't know if that's because of the new POP or what.

So I've been flagged as a heavy user. I still do not know what the limit is for a heavy user, does anyone else know?
I can barely surf the web, but P2P applications are running as usual, obviously Telkom has an extra chromosome because they are throttling the wrong pipe line.

I might jump back to Afrihost because of this, currently using my free Afrihost 1GB until the 1st of March.

It's a minor complaint, however those extra mbps do actually count for something (about 1.5x the speed, in fact). I never get above 500KB/s (which is 4mbps), and the line is definitely capable. Even between 00:00 and 06:00, I never hit close to those speeds.

Anyone on the Telkom 2mb uncapped package (R514) and your experience?

I have this package, was having problems in the beginning. Seems to have been sorted... Never get 2mbps though.. ranges from 700kbps - 1.8mbps.
Browsing and Streaming is fine, downloads are ... well non-existent to say the least.

Do not get Telkom as your ISP, get the line installed and take your pick of the rest. I can honestly say I have not looked back since I stopped using my Telkom ISP account. Today is the last day I am with Telkom ISP, but I have not used them the entire February other than for one speedtest which failed. I cancelled last month.

Telkom phoned me from my hellopeter complaint mid January to find out if my line is ok yet... :wtf:

I was under the impression it was supposed to be cancelled today, now, who knows.

+1

If only their cancellations department would just pick up the phone today I'd be a happier person. Running on Afrihost Uncapped 2MB now and it's good enough for our uses for the moment.

Things have been OK for in the last two weeks.

Downloads are fine, torrents are fine (even during the day), youtube is going like a raped ape (can even do some 720p videos fine). All this on a 2Mb/s line.

inconsistent for me. Day 1 is fine then Day 2 is a disaster. Hour 1 is fine, Hour 2 is a disaster.

I had about 3 weeks of crap, looks like they are merely shifting the problem around the country. We did also get our own 'pop' last sunday.

well the time is slowly approaching that it is easier and less of a hassle for me to cancel and move my business than stick with Telkom Internet who cant wipe their own backsides.

Thanks Guys for all the info regarding the 2mb uncapped from Telkom think I'll give it a try and if it is bad then I can always go to Axxess for example (20gigs at R89)

I can't update my iOS apps. If I switch to 3g they update.
Dont know if iTunes is being shaped. I get 20k/s on 4mbps line.
Everything else is perfect

I had issues downloading from Origin and Steam yesterday with TI Uncapped on a 4MB line. I can't be asked to wait another month for them to fix their issues, that is bull****.

Getting 50KB/s on newsgroups, 10mb account - and it hasn't been cancelled after numerous requests. WTF is wrong with these retards?

These types of statements make me think that people should be troubleshooting their lines and checking their attenuation & SNR before blaming their TI account.

I don't condone bad service but when my SNR is at a good value I'm usually getting full speed on all protocols.

On another note, this is day #11 waiting for a technician fix the noise on my line. Fault was escalated on Tuesday already :(
