Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Before i started my Telkom Uncapped contract i asked:
/SNIP

Night-Surfer** & Do Gaming add-on*

**go mad on downloads between 00:00 - 07:00 daily. You won't reach Orange or Red [Red means speed is reduced until following calender month] on the usage tracker.
*For R60 extra, your PSN/Xbox Live and Steam usage is zero-rated all day, however have to get confirmation again this is working properly :p.

Started downloading 4 x linux isos (serious) last night, this morning at about 6:30 I checked to see that all the smaller ones had completed but the large 4.4GB opensuse one was at 50% and only coming down at 3-4kB/s.

This was using aria2 (http not torrents) which is a multithreaded downloader so it should pump, so I though maybe the mirror is bad so I added another two known good mirrors to it as it can download from multiple servers as well but nothing changed.

Smack bang just after 7am the speed shot to 210-212kB/s, is this an indication that bandwidth during nightsurfer time is way oversubscribed?

Sounds similar to our experience in PE earlier this month, unfortunately I didn't have anything running on TI last night so I can't comment - Sat/Sun nightsurfer was maxing out though.

i'm on day 15 of being down so far.

fault was escalated on day 3. techie came out on day 5. connectivity was established at 0.34mg/s on a 2 meg line.

when you call the call center they say a techie needs to go out because its a fault on the line. I have had no feedback, other than one cryptic PM from telkomZa. I am done. looking into BitCo now. no idea why I got the fixed line in the first place, telkom is a definition of a waste of time

I was taking a look at this today

http://www.telkom.co.za/sites/athom...etandbroadband/adsl/&productname=Fastest ADSL

Seems like a good deal but how's Telkom's service now? I used to be with them about 4 years back with 5gb capped internet (Not wise to have such with 4 people in the house...) and I was phoning Telkom every other day because either the service was down or something was wrong. Then again Telkom was always around the Fourways area doing work so I assume the infrastructure is ok now.

Another big thing is rolling day threshold, how much is it on that line and the 4mbps line?

How is this TelkomInternet's problem?

Man, but Telkom are good at confusing the ***** out of people with their website!

Pretty sure that's just the pricing of a 10MB line (up to, that is), you still need to add either a Capped or Uncapped account for the data.

Guy here recently notched up 350GB on a TI 50GB Softcap account by using nightsurfer, other have done better. Uncapped limits depend on the account speed and usage patterns, there's no rolling threshold. All throttling resets on the 1st of the month.

... and load shedding just kicked in right on schedule for my area :(

Checked again and boom you were right  ok so the do 4mbps uncapped is R286 p/m, a little more than Mweb's offering but what I'm interested in is the data threshold. For the Mweb line I have now it's 110gb rolling day, averaging about a 100gb but the house is a bit heavier on downloads now. Telkom I'm pretty sure has a few numbers to state.

If I have any downloads I usually do them at night, like game updates for example.

TI Uncapped cancelled today - with immediate effect - no waiting period... (hope that will be the case on my account as well)
After about 30 mins in the call centre queue I have to admit the gentleman assisting was quite helpful and patient.

Upgraded line to 10Mbps which synced stable at 8Mbps shortly after the call.
For me it will be capped ADSL going forward.

Looking back, I realised that Telkom lured me into the Simple Uncapped deal at a significantly lower rate than what I ended up paying a couple of months later... Was it not for that, I would have likely been on capped with another provider from the start.
It was a more bitter than sweet, more hate than love year with TI.

Reality is that mostly it didn't perform when I needed it to, and vice versa.

For the heavy downloaders that can live with low-medium performance during the day, perhaps this or the capped/nightsurfer options will work.

To the few of you blessed with immaculate, always performing connections/accounts - long may it last!

Not burning any bridges as I might just be back here faster than I'd like... but for now, I'm relieved. Koebaai.

You do realise that by posting the fault ref here you expose your home & cell numbers, maybe more...

All you can get is my cell no... And seeing as it is my second no its not the end of the world. Why are you even trolling this thread?

He's trying to give you some sound advice... Your cell and landline number is easily obtainable. With that it is easy to get all your info. If you have no issue with anonymity, then no problem.

Ok noted, when I posted that I was not in the best of moods. You know being on hold with telkom for hours and what not.
