Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Hmmm, TI mail server is sluggish today, taking up to 15mins to deliver TI to TI.

I asked the email team within an hour of your post and they couldn't reproduce. Is it still happening? If so, please pm details (how you are sending is most relevant, specifically smtp or web, and smtp server you are using in the first case).

Hi ranger, thanks for your interest. The lag vanished by midday but was constant from around 09:30 until then, we are using smtp via smtp.saix.net.

so i just called telkom, asking to upgrade my line to 20Mb with 50GB cap.
and the person on the other line told me the R601 price is for a contract only?
i see no mention on the website and i got a call last week from telkom, with that offer without a contract.

so i called again....and the lady activated my account.
can someone please advise if i need a VDSL modem or i can use my ADSL2 modem?

You will need a VDSL modem.

well seeing that I'm still stuck with higher ping two months, two hellopeters and countless calls later, I was wondering if i move from 2mb - 4mb what are the odds that I'll be moved to a different port and possibly fix my issues.

nope, 2-4 is a simple profile change.

And if you reconnect your TI account, does it work now?

Okay changed router - still no go - can ping 8.8.8.8 fine - but still no connection for torrents, games, or browsing - seems DNS is not functioning ... , everything was fine before I went for breakfast and a bath, came back and was connected, but could go no where.

Still the same ... :(

Sorry no good news.

Gateway is 105.229.202.1

DNS is 196.7.7.7

No change - going to try a different router, as this one is taking too long for my likes to pick up the ADSL line, but logs in fast enough.

Please PM the username and the IPs that weren't working . There were recent DSLAM migrations and recovery and redeployment of subnets from Friday to late yesterday. Someone at wholesale may have made a mistake (e.g. removed a subnet from routing but not the pool in the ESR).

PM sent.

It seems my line this month hit it's limit and is now being managed.

My Son has downloaded quiet a few games this month, and is currently downloading AION which he has not played in more than 6 months. I have also downloaded a little higher than my average for a month. He also started Ninjutsu and watched quiet a few Youtube video's on the Sport.

Never had call to check the TI Tracker, before. But thinking of the number of different games he has downloaded, made me consider the possibility that the lines usage limit had been met. We had been probably operating close to the limit the last while.

Sorry I did not consider this possibility, earlier.

Your being willing to help on a Sunday is much appreciated.

Why are you using MTN's DNS? You will most likely have a slightly worse experience on anything served by CDNs.

If you were using the provided DNS, your HTTP traffic would have been redirected to a page on tracker informing you that you need to log in to acknowledge that you have been informed that fair usage enforcement is active.

We hope to implement a less intrusive approach, along with other improvements to the fair usage enforcement, by July.

On that router, a Telkom 5102G, it does not always change the DNS, when you change ISP, and is usually setup to my Afrihost account - change ISP, simply switch off one router, and switch on the other ... :D

The router that is, setup to my TI account does use the TI DNS servers, but I was not getting redirected to anywhere. Just stuck, not being able to go anywhere ... :(

If I had gotten redirected, I would not have posted here, and would not have spent half my only day, in the month off, trying to find out why I could not go anywhere via my TI account.

Anyway, I now can go places, albeit slowly and GW2 is playable if, only just ... , will save my Afrihost bandwidth for Guild missions and other guild obligations I have as an officer.

Thanks.
