Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Telkom home vs business 4mb package? Anyone know the difference in terms of usage before throttling?

What are the shaping and/or throttling policy for the home and business uncapped accounts? Interested in going for a 4mbps package.

Anyone have any idea about this?

"You qualify for Telkom's free in home connectivity service, please send your name and @YES if you are interested or @NO if you are not interested"

Why you say that?
1. Replying is going to cost you money - unless it specifically states that the reply is free of charge.
2. Replying could see you being included on a spammer's database.
3. If it is indeed Telkom, that offer will be advertised in all main newspapers in the next few days.
4. If it is indeed Telkom, that offer will be reflected on their website in the next few days.
5. If you are an existing Telkom customer it will be emailed to you soon.

Thought it could be a fibre trial in our area as they have been busy for a few weeks now with the roll out.

So, after a few months of suffering in silence with erratic speeds on my 4mb Uncapped, I decided to move to the 2mb, 50gb capped option at R269pm. Decent deal from TI. I haven't been using too much data over the past 6 months, averaging around 30gb nowadays. It's working better than my 4mb did. Seamless streaming, regardless of the time of day, and just an all round better experience. Not sure if it was just me, because I haven't been keeping up to date on this thread to be honest, but I think capped is the way forward for me. I'll kill the heavy dl's during nightsurfer, like I'm about to now :)

Liar!

I'll send you my bank details, deposit R5000 and I'll get you hooked up to a 1Gb/s uncapped fibre service for the next 5yrs all inclusive.

Honest :)

Did 6gb during nightsurfer at full speed (when I left it at 1.30am) and it hasn't touched my cap. Streaming on Genesis this morning and all is well ! I didn't have this consistency with my 4mb uncapped. Hopefully it lasts.

How did you guys actually sign up to TI?

The order process on the website doesn't work -- there doesn't seem to be any way to get anything into my cart, so I can never complete the order process. This is on Chrome and IE11; switching IE compatibility mode on doesn't work either.

I tried falling back on the "contact me" option but nobody has contacted me.

Does TI not want my money?

Used their walk in emporium - find I usually get better results that way. Have you tried calling their "hurry up and wait forever line", if you have access to a Telkom land line ...

Yes, I see the problem (from https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/productlookup/index.do). This did work better at one point (but resulted in a lead for someone to call you back to confirm, not in being able to activate entirely on your own). I will find out if it is feasible to fix in the short term, that functionality will be replaced in the medium term anyway.

Most channels have a backlog due to the restructuring initiatives, some plans to address the lost capacity didn't materialise.

Unfortunately that is something we no longer have any direct influence over, since Telkom Internet-specific online activation was decommissioned in order to align with line and ADSL ordering.

Activation of our accounts are subject to Telkom Group IT ordering systems at present :-(.

Apparently there are some improvements coming around September; I think that won't allow complete customer self-activation either, but will allow customers to select almost everything and reserve usernames, email addresses etc.

ranger, I'm not sure where the Capped thread went, just to say that Telkom Internet Capped is working beautifully in the Cape.
