Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Interesting reading.

On 12th October at 06:00:48 my connection dropped:

Oct 12 06:00:48 192.168.254.1 Interface change
Oct 12 06:00:48 192.168.254.1 interface=SAIX - Uncapped
Oct 12 06:00:48 192.168.254.1 status=DOWN

And came up a with a second:

Oct 12 06:00:48 192.168.254.1 state=ACTIVE
Oct 12 06:00:48 192.168.254.1 protocol=CONNECT
..
..
Oct 12 06:00:49 192.168.254.1 ac-name=wtvw-ip-bb-1

My ac-name changed from wbs-ip-esr-4 to wtvw-ip-bb-1, and since then I'm lucky to get any sub 100ms responses, and have seen over 1000ms. I've reported this issue several times and I've also received several "your report reference ... has been restored" SMSs. What a load of crock.

This is a good test result:

Any ideas as to why a concentrator change at 06:00.

Does anyone have a list of the ac-names, or decode the naming scheme?

They are busy laying fibre infrastructure in the street, but that's not going to help if I end up connecting to the same congested concentrator at the exchange.

Not impressed.

I forgot to mention that I'd no problems before this, other that constant disconnects a month earlier, but that was resolved within a week, after reporting it twice.

Glad I found this thread. At least it gives some context and sometimes that helps. Connection went to **** around the 10th of the month. Stay in Pinelands. Also had multiple faults closed with no reason why. Messaged TelkomZA and the latest I've been told is that line appears fine but that "routing further into the network causing the symptom". Was told an engineer made a routing change on Friday, but no difference.

Thanks. :wtf: I'm in Durbanville, so that might explain a few things.
And I'd guess wbs-ip-esr-4 is Bellville, to which the Durbanville exchange connects to.
I'll get onto the phone with these clowns again tomorrow morning.

It's just how the network topology works.

and the ping is horse again... Wonder when this is gonna be fixed... Is this new IPC everyone going on about actually gonna fix this?

I wonder what impact TI Capped's double your data promo is having on IPC and overall performance?

... seems to be an annual event now and IIRC we were complaining about similar issues around this time last year.

Hi
first time posting. I am on a Telkom 10meg uncapped adsl account and just received a message from Telkom that I have reached my quota and need to sign into the Telkom portal and need to accept the terms and conditions. I signed on but I am still in the orange with a quarter bar still left and only did about 240 gigs mostly during 12am to 7. And there are nothing to accept??? Any help will be appreciated.

Excellent forum

So far so good today... will post more results during the evening peak.

Hi.

everything just went back to normal. message just disappeared and throttling is gone. Weird but no complaints now

Anyone else massive problems with TI? A bunch of sites aren't loading at all (they give connection reset errors), but others work perfectly fine. Tried restarting my router and changing my DNS from Google to SAIX, but the issue persists on either one.

Am I the only one with this issue? It's very strange. Everything was fine a couple minutes ago.

Had the same problem about 15 minutes ago but all ok now.

Yep - same problem. Mybroadband always appears remarkably resilient :-)

There's a definite DNS problem in the WC. Unfortunately, I was still having issues, so I changed to the Pretoria and Durban DNS (196.43.50.190 and 196.43.53.190) and things are a bit better now. I hope they fix the issue soon.

Forgot to refresh the page so I didn't seen your post. Yeah, it's strange that mybb always seems to work, no matter what. :p Anyway, trying giving the suggested fix above a try, if you're comfortable changing a couple numbers in your routers settings. Hopefully they'll have this fixed by tomorrow.

Does downloading between 00:00 - 07:00 go towards your data usage from now on?

The reason I ask, is I only download during those times mentioned above and my data usage under TI tracker is showing full red. The status bar is right to the end. Now my kids stream youtube during the day right up to around 8-9pm. Could that be have a negetive impact on my usage? I estimate they stream around 100GB+- a month.
I'm on a 2Mbps Uncapped product.

12 to 7 doesn't count.

The 2meg uncapped threshold is around 100 to 120 gigs iirc so your status bar is correct.
