Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Wonder what the FUP levels are for 10Mbps uncapped, the current combo promo @ R799/mth is starting to make sense.

We shouldn't have to wonder, we should have been told by now.

Sorry Telkom, count me out.
But where previously you would have had almost unuseable internet for days, now you just have slower internet.

For example, my 4Mbps account would have been throttled to 384k after 180GB of usage measured between 07h00 and midnight, now it will be throttled to 2Mbps only between 19h00 and 21h00.

Please note that there are other improvements for uncapped users coming soon which we can't announce yet, so we can't pass on the maximum benefits of price reductions just yet.

But you were content with what you had before, now that FUP enforcement is not as harsh/abrupt, you're upset?
Telkom should have led with the carrot, not the stick. :o

Application of the stick last night was a defect (that has now been fixed and tested in QA), the intended change is actually a carrot, but not the whole carrot.

According to this: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/...3098_Telkom_Internet_Uncapped_AUP_online.html

...FUP enforcement starts at 50% of the previous utilisation and gets progressively worse. Or have I misunderstood?

I would have explained the change a bit differently to current customers. The intention as I understand it is to publish the values (you will be able to see quite accurately anyway).

FUP1 starts at 50% of X, but X was doubled from what it was last month (where FUP started), so FUP1 starts at the same point the old FUP started.

However, there was a defect that incorrectly applied FUP1 last night to users who had exceeded 50% of the previous value last month. The defect has beed fixed and tested in QA, and affected users will be fixed today before FUP1 time starts.

Man, my head's spinning. Gonna have a shower and some coffee and re-read that later ... :D

Old system - basically lets say the Max usage (FUP Limit) was 100gb... That would mean that at 100gb you'd be dead in the water

New system - so now the new Max is 200gb... FUP1 only starts at 100gb...

Thanks for explaining.

Customers that reach 100% of the FUP will be throttled between 7:00 and 24:00. Once FUP level 3 is reached, a customers’ rollover date will be changed. A rollover date is the monthly start date of your Telkom Internet uncapped account. The standard roll over date is the 1st of every month. The new date will be one of the following: 8th, 15th or 21st, depending on which date is the closest to the date that the FUP level was reached. The new roll over date will remain in place whilst the customer subscribes to the uncapped product.
Seems TI are going for a rolling window FUP which is going to confuse the bejasus out of a lot of their uncapped users who are accustomed to having a clean slate on the 1st of the month.

I anticipate this previously quiet thread becoming hyperactive in the coming month.

Good evening. Please can someone assist me. I am in northern KZN and currently playing CSGO on the official servers is almost impossible. I get a ping of around 300. When doing a speedtest on saix.net, i get decent numbers to the Durban server but when I select the cape town one, I get a ping of around 70ms but a jitter of 80ms (its 1ms to the Durban server). Not sure if this could be part of the problem. Would that be a routing issue if is fine to Durban but so terrible to the Cape?

Here is a tracert to www.uct.ac.za if that will help in any way

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.0.0.2
2 35 ms 34 ms 35 ms ndn-ip-esr-3.east.dsl.telkomsa.net [105.224.12.1]
3 * * * Request timed out.

9 58 ms 57 ms 76 ms te0-7-0-2-101-cpt2-pe2.tenet.ac.za [155.232.27.250]

Thanks very much for the help.

Edit : Jitter is now consistently around 150ms

Where can I check my current status?

By the way, I'm seeing a pattern that all latency issues seem to be some how linked to cpt.

Hi

On a 4mb telkom uncapped account I could download about 160gb a month and get very near to power user on the telkom tracking site (seems like fup is 180) With the new fup does that mean at 90gb I will be throttled already, if so goodbye telkom hello vox. Or will level 1 throttling only kick in at 180gb?

Thanks

It will start there if it is your limit. :)

Yes.

Are you saying there are price reductions in the offing?

Have to say I'm peeved that this 10Mbps combo promo @ R799 is only available to new/upgrading clients. I've been a 10Mbps uncapped user for a long time and am currently paying R999.
If you are on month x of 24 of uncapped 10mbps at R999 then you can only upgrade to a higher package without paying a penalty. Changing from uncapped 10mbps R999 to uncapped 10mbps R799 cant be viewed as an upgrade.

What does your Telkom invoice say regarding contract term??
