http://www.speedtest.net/ actually fails with a "UPLOAD TEST ERROR. A socket error occurred during the Upload test. Please try again later." And that is on the durban saix speedtest.

Welcome to dial-up land!

That is strange indeed. Can you send me a message with your username and the IP's of the gaming servers ?

During this period of issues, Dota 2 has not been affected but Counter Strike Global Offensive has had really high pings.

Seems OK here in PE:

Ping: 34ms
Download: 9.19Mbps
Upload: 0.79Mbps

Code:
[mick@house ~]$ ping -qc 20 bbc.co.uk
PING bbc.co.uk (212.58.244.23) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- bbc.co.uk ping statistics ---
20 packets transmitted, 20 received, 0% packet loss, time 19023ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 220.859/239.723/255.551/9.453 ms

Bandwidth were added to all three breakout points. So from the feedback so far, Durban seems problematic. How are the other areas doing ?
Performance on the dowerglen msan seems noticeably better,.can actually complete a speedtest.

Packet-loss to MTN and some intl destination persisting

Hey streaker,

There is clearly an issue on the peering our upstream provider SAIX have with MTN. This was reported to them and we are awaiting resolution.

Any news back from SAIX yet? Packet-loss is still exactly the same as before, so I'm assuming SAIX has not yet fixed whatever the issue is. From an MTR trace, the trouble begins between hop 6 and 7. Peering link issue perhaps?

deckert,

SAIX has acknowledged the issue but does not provide feedback if the the issue will be resolved. We have already made contact with MTN and they agreed to peer with us at NAPAfrica in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Just waiting on them to complete their configurations.

Will ask them for a progress update again today

Thank you, streaker. Really appreciate your effort on this one.

Hopefully SAIX gets things fixed anyway, since the same issue seems to impact the Intl. traffic as well.

Not sure what you mean about 'if the issue will be resolved'.

There is no IF, people pay for a service, and they haven't been getting it pretty much this whole month. Any normal company in any normal country would be have it fixed it hours, and have refunded the customer for wasted time.

SA, where you pay 10x the price of every other country for 10x ****ter internet. Imagine our ISPS were run by people educated on this matter :(

He's saying that when there is a resolution in the pipeline they don't provide feedback, not if they're going to fix it or not. SA, where kids don't pay attention in English class during comprehension lessons :p

Keep supporting and defending **** service, our country will go so far by doing so.

Main issue is from PANORAMA Exchange(196.25.166.225)

Ping statistics for 196.25.166.225:
Packets: Sent = 186, Received = 150, Lost = 36 (19% loss)

It happens every couple of years when a lot of people suddenly jump up tiers of connection speeds, from good deals or just natural line speed increases.

There is not even any faults reported for it on the notice board, seems like telkom really has under 'control', good lols.
