Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

3 weeks now, tons of Telkom internet accounts just trash tier with **** speeds, timeouts and what not.

Logged 2 complaints about my line speed. You have "resolved" both of them, yet my speed still goes to **** from 7pm onward

Because your line is fine.

There is a major issue effecting most telkom accounts ranging from people having 20% dropped packets to intl,400+ pings, and terrible download speeds.

I have tried with Axxess, crystal web and Afrihost. It is all the same.

Update on my end. At some random time in the middle of the night last night, all the insane ping timeouts just vanished. Clear 0 packet loss to anything in the US or EU, compared to 20% packet loss to anything leaving the country.

Still seems to be running good. Now to see if the pings and bandwidth end up going to poop at 7-10 even though ive used like 20gbs on a 10mb line, not even near any sort of FUP tier.

This is standard practice. Pretty much every weekday. Someone broke something last month.

Can anybody help me make sense of this tracertCapture.PNG

Hi streaker,

Just a quick update: I reported these two issues:

1. Packet-loss to selected International destinations
2. Packet-loss to MTN Business

Looks like each of these issues were resolved during a 9pm maintenance window. The local loss issue was resolved at exactly 9pm on the 16th of May and the intl. issue was resolved at exactly 9pm on the 15th of May.

Thanks to those who attended to the problem and solved it. It say the only negative was that it took 10 days to resolve.

deckert,

Also noticed that SAIX fixed the issue on their side, still waiting on feedback. :( We will continue with our efforts to setup direct peering with MTN to prevent similar issues in future. That should prevent things like the 10 day turn around time.

Ah OK, I change my dns and everything is working again but now EVERYTHING is so SLOW
Response time is awful, I was really enjoying being on the Google dns

I was on Google DNS the whole time, didn't experience anything. Also in KZN. When you switch ISPs, are things better?

This was posted on the Crystal Web Forum. Does this apply across the board or just CW? Seems like a Telkom issue

DSL Technical Fault and Maintenance
Incident Report for Crystal Web
Investigating
Crystal Web has identified a technical fault in our network core resulting in higher latency and decreased speeds intermittently, but predominantly being experienced between 18:00 and 22:00. We will be replacing and upgrading hardware over the next 2 weeks with no expected downtime for clients during this process, which will resolve this problem.

Maintenance Details
Maintenance of the DSL Infrastructure is currently taking place with upgrades and replacement of hardware at network locations in Western Cape, Gauteng, and Kwa-Zulu Natal. This has no impact on FTTH services over non-Telkom lines.

I have Telkom ADSL in Claremont/Kenilworth Cape Town, and have noticed the today YouTube, Reddit and Google have been blocked or really slowed down (Not the first time)n Like I could for instance do a search on Bing.com just fine but google would never load. Telkom says they have no idea why these websites won't load, BUT has anyone else experienced this or know what the -- is going on?

This issue is occurring from 5 minutes ago. Mybb, BBC, Google, YouTube stopped loading. Even changing the DNS didn't help. I switched to my afrihost account for now. I'm in the KZN region.

Edit: Issue seems to be resolved.
