Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Things are bad here again, unfortunately. Can't stream over 480p YouTube (local), and xbmc/Twitch (international sources) is lagging.

2nd hop looks like the culprit again for local speeds.

I just want to browse the internet, but it's so slow I can't. NetLimiter is telling me that I'm getting 4kb/s, but as soon as I go to Speedtest.net, i get perfect speeds. Hmm...something looks fishy here, Telkom.

Same as ambroseg1 above me, my NZB's are also getting 1kb/s.

I'm over this. What is the point of having internet, if I can't browse articles, or even load Google services properly. I'm starting to go insane. My internet was faster and more reliable when I was on a 384 line. So much for 2meg. :/

On my side though, speedtests are showing exactly what I am getting. +-30 kilobyte per second download speeds.

I find Ookla Speedtest inaccurate when it comes to indicating streaming speed.
Right now, speedtest.net is showing 3.7 mbps while browsing is slow and streaming is impossible.
However...
www.speedofme.com is clocking < 200kbps download - way more indicative of what's happening and that we're throttled/shaped beyond reason.
I have done this test repeatedly over the last couple of months and without exception, when speedofme.com gets high numbers, streaming works perfectly, any ISP.
My theory is that since speedtest.net is commonly used by most people to determine connection speed, ISPs somehow 'unshape' this site/port/address/DNS and voilla... nothing wrong, right? right...
speedofme.com tells an entire different story.

I agree with other posters that Telkom needs to come clean and clarify what the throttling rules and schedules are so that users can plan accordingly and more importantly, choose ISPs more insightfully.

its 23:03 and NZB downloads have increased to +-100kilobytes per second.

Its 06:48 now and the throttling is back to +-40kilobytes per second.

I have stopped using my uncapped account now because it's really a waste of time.
I'm not sure what Telkom are trying to achieve but it's quite terrible.

Afrihost have resolved their IPC issues on my side it seems so everything is running like a dream.

I have done the same. My TI account has been inactive the past few month, cancelling is just to painful and a waist of my time. I think i will downgrade it to the cheapest package they have.

My Afrihost capped account runs like a 4 on a 10Mbps line.

Like night and day really.

Telkom uncapped measure at 3.5kbps on speedtest but streams terribly.
Afrihost capped measures at 3.4kpbs but streams flawlessly.

Same here and that is streaming in 720p. Anyone know what the cheapest TI capped account is?

I have no recent experience of trying to cancel a Telkom service (or part thereof).
What's the best/least painful way of doing this? Canceling TI part to move to other ISP?

Trying to get hold of the cancelling department is a long tedious hold session. Once you eventually get through they are useless and half the time the cancel your ADSL line to. Then you have another mission of reapplying for another ADSL line.
I am just downgrading my TI Uncapped adsl line to the cheapest package they have and using another ISP instead until they eventually fix this issue.

Sound advice - thanks.
Going to keep that in mind, although I am sceptical about Afrihost that never seems much different or better than TI for me.
I guess it could be exchange congestion.

Would be great if capped AH data would solve the problem since I already have an account with them for the mobile data and free 1GB ADSL so more capped GBs are just a few clicks/taps away for me.

I just called cancellatons. I had to hold for about half hour before someone answered.I told them to cancel the ISP portion of my account.
Waited for another 15 mins for her to do it and give me a ref. I just hope its cancelled on the 22/05 like she said it would be.

I dont know if its because the weekend is over but my telkom is performing mucg better today than is usually the case during mornings and afternoons. holding thumbs it lasts.
